Hi guys,
Whilst we were on honeymoon our microwave decided to develop a rust spot and for the paint to come off on the on the door on the inside so when I went to use it to soften the butter it sparked and smoked! Oops! But does anyone know of an IVA friendly repair job - can I use black gaffa tap or a bit of black sticky backed plastic to cover it up so it works again???

I suggest that you advise your IP of this problem and ask for a short payment break so that you can replace the oven. I don't know much about electrics or microwaves, but the thought of a dangerous piece of equipment being repaired by sticky tape doesn't sit comfortably with me. You can buy a new one for £150 and make up the arrears at £10 per month - well I would allow you to do that if you were my client.

Cheers for that Kerri! I might wait and see what Father Christmas brings me this year. I think I've been a good girl - well I'm doing hubby's chores today does that count?!?!?!
Just seems so wasteful to buy a new one when the other one is only 2 years old.

the same thing happened with my microwave, but it was only one of the cheap ones, i didn't replace it as i found i didn't really use it that much, hopefully doing those chores will pay off.

I dont have any luck with microwaves either, I have had 3 in 3 years ,they just pack up on me yet I dont use it except to reheat things. You can get them quite cheap, argos have one for 14.99 and another at half price ,much better for 22 pounds.

Last weekend the element in the boiler went, the washing machine makes a strange knocking noise now and then and the light pull in the toilet is temperamental - thank goodness we're moving!
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I am midway through sorting out an IVA and since I have been, things seem to be giving up the ghost weekly, 1st the dishwasher packed up! Had my gel nails took off to save the monthly cost of the upkeep so won't hurt me to wash up which we have been for the last few weeks, my gold bangle I've had years has snapped in half, that can wait in the jewellery box to be repaired one day! Now the dehumidifier has packed in this week! Typical eh? but luckily all things I can live without. Hope you get yourself a microwave soon and like others have said there are some good basic ones about.

Funnily enough our friend who is a dab hand with all things electric took it apart stuck it back together again and it worked perfectly and according to hubby it worked perfectly the other night when he reheated his tea. Must be just me!!!!
Yes.. must be me.. I set fire to the oven gloves last night!!! Oops [:I]

Same thing happened to my microwave (its my 3rd this year)
One day it was sparking, next day it wasnt then in the end it died.
Shame hubby's IVA proposal didn't include a microwave clause.
