Its interesting what is written here.

I had 40ks worth of debts about 7 years ago and went for an IVA (in the early days and paid £300 for the privildge); i had/have a longterm mental illness that basically screwed me up and it took time to get to grips with etc.

Anyway, the IVA was refused due to SLC not accepting the amount.

Then i managed to pay the SLC, £20 pcm here and there for nearly 4 years while clearing individually through negotiation all of the other debts. The SLC debt went up £5k in the process (arrears) to a total of £15k.

So, i know go the SLC and state i want relief under section 9 of the SLC Loan Act and they won't give it despite medical evidence or even accept my payment offers.

I don't have any other debts etc only a house (no equity)/car loan and an IVA/Bankruptcy is way overkill i think with 1 debt!

I have approached the CCCS to see if they can help, complaining to the FOS to see if they can help and this forum, as i need some advice.

Also what is a DMP and an Special IVA?

Thank in advance

DMP stands for Debt Management Plan which is an informal arrangement to pay affordable sums on a monthly basis to your creditors - lasting until the full amount of the debt has been paid off.

I don't understand your reference to a Special IVA. Please clarify.

Sorry - i was originally going to post in an earlier posting that mentioned an SIVA - and i had not idea how it was different from an IVA - thus the question.

This is really frustrating with the SLC, they are asking me to pay £175 pcm (the full payment amount) and i just can't afford it.....

not sure of my options really...
