I was shocked today when I rang the RBS. Basically I was following advice and was attempting to negotiate a lower monthly payment figure until my IVA is agreed or declined. RBS said that they do not negotiate lower figures, FULL STOP.

It doesn't bode well maybe for my getting agreement for future IVA'.

Good to see the ********'s are up for compromise. And I haven't even approached HSBC yet![V]

Hi Helen, and welcome to the forum.

How far along the IVA route are you?

If you want to make any payments, just make token ones, £5 or 10 to each creditor.

As for RBS, you will have been speaking to someone in a call centre. All they are there to do is get your money off you. They have nothing whatever to do with the voting.

I never phoned my creditors at all, I wrote to them.

Forgot to add, I had a loan and a credit card through RBS, and they voted yes at my meeting.

thanks .
WE're in the initial 'oh ****t' stage so nothing has been agreed yet.
It'll be interesting to see where it all goes.
Hopefully we've got Melanie and her team on board so fingers crossed.

That is a shame - because the creditors are constantly telling us that they want us to encourage clients to make pro-rata payments in the weeks leading up to the IVA proposals being presented, but your post indicates that this particular bank do not want to talk to you. I will feed this back to RBS' voting representatives to see what they say. They are generally a very supportive creditor - and very commercial if you are putting best foot forward.

You should be ok then.

Of course don't forget that you will start getting the phone calls and letters (if you haven't already started having them).

Don't be bullied into making any normal payments, and if you do make token ones, don't pay more to one creditor - it will be showing favour.

I never used to answer the phone, just did all my stuff by letter.

I would imagine that it'll be due to the current climate I'm sure.

We will be changing our phone number this week, I'm due for surgery next week and won't be able to deal with the stress of it all.

Good idea Helen - we had a separate number with BT Broadband, so just gave family and friends that one. The relief of knowing it wouldn't be a creditor on the other end of the phone!

I hope your op isn't anything serious Helen, and it all goes ok.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
