Hi
My husband and I have now left Debt Free Direct after closing our IVA down halfway through due to their dreadful service.
Their internal Solicitor has failed to action our complaint against Paul George so does anyone know who we can complain too? Is there a supervising body?

Hi Charlotte,
Would you mind me asking what problems you had with DFD?
Only ask cos we are with them and so far they have been excellent to us but I am curious to know if there is anything we should be wary of down the road?
xx

Mr George is licensed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales - so this is the body that any complaint ought to be addressed to. It might be worth mentioning this to the solicitor you refer to, as notices like this tend to be dealt with vey seriously.

Hi Til
Basically from day one they failed to add two debts that we are now paying off at £200 a month.
They failed to give us yearly variations. Their staff are incompetent and fail to do anything you ask them.
Paul George is a law unto himself. He never answered emails and when something happened, like when I lost my job, we needed new tyres and I found out I was pregnant, he sent nasty threatening emails.
They won't allow you a payment break and don't expect to be allowed greater allowances a month with the credit crunch. They believe that you told them what your outgoings are and that will stick for the 5 years. They also make decisions on your behalf without consulting you so please be aware and double check everything.
In our case they didn't do anything to earn their money.

Hi Melanie
We have complained to Rose Green at DFD and she has wrote us a letter disputing our complaint and saying we were offered a variation but we never returned the paperwork which NEVER happened.
DFD are STILL closing down our IVA nearly 3 months on and my husband doesn't want me to complain because he says that PG might change his mind and make us bankrupt.
I want to complain and get our £5000 bank which conveniently when they agreed to close our IVA was their total fees!!

Thanks Charlotten - so far I have checked everything and they have been very good to us but then I have not had anything to do with any of the poeple you mentioned - however I will keep on double checking everything as forewarned is fore-armed!
Thanks for feedback and heads up - good luck with sorting it all out [:)]

I don't think that you have any hope of getting your money back - even if a complaint is upheld Charlotte. It might be better to just move on.

Thanks Melanie. I take what you say on board but I don't think my soul will rest unless I try.
I hate them with the passion of a trillion people and want them to be held accountable.
If you are right and I don't get my money back at least I can say I tried.
Thanks again though.

Sometimes, Charlotte, this sort of thing is not about money but about seeing the right thing done for those who will follow you. Take advice from the ICAEW. They will let you know if you have grounds for a claim, and if not they will explain why.
