ok, so im leaving work on ill health and my HR manager sent me an email about severance pay, this is what she put...
The only severance pay would be is 1 full months pay with any additional annual leave that you will have accrued as you have only been with us for a short while. We pay staff that finish on incapacity 1 months pay for each year they have worked for us to a maximum of 12 years.
Sooo...ive worked for them for 3 years, does that mean i get 3 months pay or, just 1 like she first writes?
Im confused!!

Hi - sorry to be bearer of bad news, but as you've only been with them for 3 years I would think she means 1 week for each year.. so 3 weeks, but maybe the company are being kind and given you 1 month. Thats normal practice for severance pay sorry [:(]

I would have thought if you were paid monthly, then they would be talking about months rather than weeks.
If you have an Intranet system at work, you could perhaps check on there, or are you off sick at the moment?

Hope it is months for you - even if you get monthly, severance, redundancy pay is worked in weeks. Unfortunately, I have recently had to calculate redundancy payments for personnel [:(]

Perhaps it depends on who you work for?

Yes Jan, different companies will have different polices. Although the statutory redundancy payments are worked out in weeks. Most companies I know work payments out in weeks as opposed to months and that includes Sainsburys and the like.
I've never worked for the NHS so hopefully they will be generous for flashingblade and give 3 months.
