i am at my wits end, i need help, i have a property in northern ireland and is is shared between myself and my partner. i have put it up for sale but it is not selling, my partner is staying in the house as we broke up recently and i am moving back to my parents. can i declare myself bankrupt to get a fresh start from this and will i be able to keep my job and car if i do? i dont really mind about not getting credit for years as i dont use a credit card only a debit card for payments and getting my salary paid in. i am an architectural technologist, my car is not worth very much, i would say 1000K .my partner is a tax auditor

Hi ala and welcome to the forum

How much equity do you have in the property? And how much are your debts? Is your partner in a position to buy you out of the property, which could give you some money to offer to your creditors? You could always propose an IVA on the basis that the house will be sold over the next 12 months, you do not have to wait for it to sell first? But if bankruptcy is a better option for you, it is very likely that you will be able to retain your job and your car.
