There have been numerous posts on here of people paying up front fees only to wait months to find out their IVA has failed or paying very high IP costs over the duration. Experts advise we should go straight to an IP rather than through debt management companies. The problem is most of us don't know where to turn to. We tend to find this forum by chance - or Google - and for many by then they are so far down the line its too late.
I dont think its a coincidence that the companies often criticised on here dont post themselves. They want the naive ones and have no use of a forum such as this. Equally the people that do take their time to assist us here tend to have very good reputations and feedback. I belong to a profession and fully understand how easy it is for the bad apples to make us all look bad in the public eye. We keep saying the I in IVA stands for individual and this has more than one meaning. Our circumstances are individual and we want to be treated as an individual, not a case number.
So this is a question aimed at the experts and admin. Is there a way that this website could be shown as a link on such sites as National Debtline, BBC or Citizens Advice. Could debt counsellors on the end of telephones suggest it to people phoning up for initial advice?
I know I was minutes away from calling one of the TV advertised companies before doing a search and finding this. I don't often ask many questions here because most of my questions are answered in other posts. But I refresh the page 3-4 times a night and before going to work to ensure I don't miss anything relevant.
As always good luck to all of you whatever stage you are at and big thanks to admin and all the experts for the platform and freely given support.
This is a stressful time for all of us but it helps to know we are not alone
