Hi I am currently about 8 months into my IVA now and have recently decided to try for an extra basic bank account to help keep my salary seperate from my standing orders and direct debits.

I went to Natwest to try and open their step account but was refused.

Can I have some advise on which banks/accounts I can open a basic account while in an IVA?

Please help.

Hi,

Try yorkshire bank, or nationwide basic bank accounts.

Cheers,

Have a look into Think banking.
It is an account that is open to all and splits your account into two.One is used to keep money to cover all your direct debits etc and the remainding money is put into the other account and you can access this via a Maestro debit card.It costs £12.50 per month and £25 to set up but i think that it is well worth it.
It is all done by phone but internet banking is in the pipeline. You can withdraw your cash from any link cash machine.
If you do not want a account that charges then try the Co-op bank

Hi
As others have suggested try the CO-OP Accounts can be set up by phone and don't worry if there is not a branch nearby as cash and cheques can be paid in at the post office and you get the usual services - direct debits and internet banking etc

My uncle is a real financial whizz (doesn't run in the family!) and has been with Nationwide for years - if he was unhappy he would have left them years ago!

Did nationwide & co-op myself - both Internet/phone about 1 year into IVA.

Have no issues with either of em, use internet mainly, and ditched HSBC (before they ditched me).

Now I think of it - I seem to remember sum posts about Nationwide changing their policy quite recently (like start of July?)
