Hi Fiona and welcome. It is not like bankrupcy where details are put in the paper, though i doubt that many people actually read them. In an iva though it is registered on the insolvency register and can be viewed via the internet on the official insolvency website. That is if someone is that interested, and they actually know the register exists in the first place. They would not get it by just googling your name.
There is a petition at present on here to try to make this less accessible. Your work will not be told or anything like that.

Hi Fiona and Welcome,

An IVA is not entirely private but it is more discreet than bankruptcy. In bankruptcy your details get printed in the local paper, whereas in an IVA your details do not. However in an IVA your details will be placed on the insolvency register, this is a public register. Although its a public register not many people are aware of its existance.

Its private in sofar as no one goes through this Public Insolvency register, and happen to see your name and address and everyone elses.

I don't know why they have to have a persons address on it??

Actually HSBC/First Direct have been known to put their client's details through the Insolvency Register and then shut down their accounts. However individuals of the public unless they have enquired about their debts etc wouldn't know about it.

I suppose having someone's name and address makes it easier to identify the person and creates less mistakes. Imagine how many John Smiths are out there [:D]

Hi
But banks have access to bankruptcy and IVA details via the various credit reference agencies.
At least limit access to the register to financial companies with CCL.
