Hi Steve,

Not a very bigh saving, but every little helps!

Egg card protection costs £0.79 per month for each £100 outstanding on your card, you could buy this elsewhere for £0.33.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum.

I would say, if anything, your post is not long enough. For expert advice I think you need to include the balance on the egg card and the amount of the Halifax loan, also how long it has to run.

Another thing I was going to ask, when you say signed off for good do you mean retired on ill health? If so, will your wife receive an ill health pension?

I would do several things. In addition to seeking expert advice on here, I would go and find out exactly what benefits your wife is entitled to through being unable to work. Things like disability living allowance, housing benefit, council tax benefit are a few that spring to mind. Then there is income support as well.

Once you know what your wife is entitled to you will have a clear idea what to budget for.

I would also have a look at my bank statements over the last 6 years and find out for myself just how much the bank have taken in charges over that period. I would consider very carefully whether or not it is worth claiming them back. If you are going to either consider an IVA, DMP or go bankrupt there is little point in doing so, but if your wife is getting some form of redundancy/vr or retirement pay which together with the charges would clear the debt, it is worth considering.

I hope you find a good solution for yourself and your wife. Best of luck. Ann

The full amount on Loan is £12,000
The full amount on Egg card is £1350
The full amount on Npower is £90
The wifes Course Total is £3,000
We have just been told that because of what I earn, we can not get any benifits at all, so we are now waiting to hear from DLA.
I have sent a letter to my bank requesting all charges from the past 6 years, 2 weeks ago now and am thinking about sending another (I have opened another account else where).

Thank you all for your replies :)
