Hi guys

Now that I am on the road to sorting out my situation I am trying to see what my alternatives are when it comes to my money.

As someone who travels with work, I need to make sure that I can pay for transactions abroad. Sadly, my new "no frills" bank account has a debit card that doesn't always work. My only other option is a credit card!

Have you used a pre-pay card, and if so, what ones would you recommend?

I for one would not in any way recommend the Paypal one at the moment! They've messed up my account with putting extra money in that wasn't mine. When I did the right thing and told them they then took back more than they should, leaving me with a deficit! Not a happy customer.

I seem to think there was a comparison of pre-paid cards on this web-site but can't see it at the moment. I know Thomas Cook have what seems basically a visa electron card which they call a "passport" which can be taken out in sterling, dollars or euros which may be of use if you travel abroad a lot. I don't know how their charges per transaction compare with others.

Money Supermarket also has a comparison for pre pay credit cards. They are pretty good, but watch out for the fees on them!
I have a Tuxedo, no problems so far!

The cashplus pre paid card is pretty good, fees are very reasonable compared to many, i've used mine aborad with no problems. One of the few that can be used for car hire if necesary.

David - who is another IP who regularly posts on the forum runs a company who promote a pre-paid card. I think that he contains details of that website on his profile page, so that could be worth a look.
