Has anyone tried for an 02 contract as a new customer and been successful ?

I fancy a new phone and tried 3 network last week and was rejected; funny thing is this hasn't appeared as a search on my noodle credit file

I believe tmobile are less strict , but I'm told their network isn't too good; that said beggars can't be choosers !!

Ive been with O2 since they were Cellnet and haven't had problems upgrading my phone. I don't know what they are like for new customers though.

Hi 12 mto, i have been on pay as you go with 02 since having had my first mobile in the late 90's spending approx £30 per month, i did ask about going onto a contract and unfortunately was declined as they do, do a credit check, however i have now gone onto a simplicity package which is slightly cheaper than my £30 but the downside is that i have had to buy my own phone which i have managed to do with the rewards i got, so not all bad. Good luck with whatever network you go with. x
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.

IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.

Thanks BOL

I was just like you and if I had stayed with them would be in a better place; I'm on tesco payg and for years have rejected the notion of new fangled smart phones, but am thinking perhaps I need to move into the 21st century and get down with the kids !!

Don't think I want an iPhone, but quite fancy the new nokia lumini or whatever it's called. I've been reading up on web and apparently 02 allegedly take on people with bad credit history, particularly if you apply via there website. In fact I went all the way through the aplic process to the personal details page, but then chickened out before submitting and there was no mention of a credit cheque, although thus could ave been mentioned maybe if iHad clicked submit

Thanks orchid5

I think I might wait until I receive my completion certificate; last payment being made mid April and I just fancy a new phone, as in my pre iva days, I always liked to have the latest phone , one of the many luxuries I've just not bothered with over the at 6 years

Should I change my mind and apply for a contract , I will post the outcome

Thanks again

I got a contract phone for the wife as her pay as you go was on it's last legs. Applied for a Samsung Galaxy Ace from Virgin on last Friday afternoon, phone arrived Saturday morning at 0800, cant get better than that. The Virgin site did say they would carry out a credit check so I was unsure whether I would get it or not, no dramas though.

O2 won't accept you for a new contract whilst in an IVA but TMobile are supposed to be good and, as Merlin says, Virgin seem to be ok as well.

I did it all online, there are quite a few phone models to choose from on 24 month contracts even at the lower end of the price scale. As a Virgin customer I ended up with a 24 month contract for £10.99, 100 minutes, 500 texts and 500mb internet. You also get 3000 mins Virgin mobile to Virgin mobile. The Samsung really is a nice phone, not as big as an iPhone and super light.

I managed a contract for daughter and I'm in an IVA with T-Mobile so worth giving them a shot or Virgin depending on which gives you the better signal. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Thanks angel rainbow

Ive concluded that in all probability, I can't be sure until i apply, tmobile would appear to treat people in an iva very fairly and provide contracts; 02 are suggested on some Internet sites as almost guaranteed to approve customers with bad debt history and yet fellow posters have found this not to be the case.

I think I will hold tight for a few months, as I don't know anyone who has a good word to say about tmobile

Thanks again for the replies

I think having a bad credit history though is different to being in an IVA!, a lot of places will accept people with defaults, missed payments and CCJ's, but when it comes to an IVA or BR it's a no go.

I have an account with O2 for my daughter but had this from before we went into the IVA anyway so haven't had to be credit checked again.

My O2 contract is up for renewal this year and I am happy to stay with them and just hope it automatically rolls over and they won't credit check me etc. I will have to wait and see I guess

All they will do pod is just check that you have kept your account with them in order and you will be able to either upgrade or just leave it as it is.

I've upgraded once since being in the IVA and just altered the tariff last year for hubby online with no problems.

Daughter had to do my 3 contract though but hopefully I'll be able to upgrade with them next year when it's due.
