I have been on a DMP with CCC,for 3 months - wonderful organisation but I was aways concern with creditors hiking up interest in the future, demanding I take out loans to consolidate etc, creating uncertainty to a DMP which would have taken 7 years(assuming all interest is frozen)to maybe 9 years.

I heard from another site(highly recom') debtquestions.co.uk that creditors will with no warning start charging interest and made people get on the phone frantically with CCCs or paypal and become hysterical.

Finally, I went for an IVA,with no promises of success from the start... and got the thumbs up from creditors who voted. I had over 92K with 12 creditors(16 credit cards).Only 3 accountancy firms represented them all.

I have heard all creditors voted yes(except Capital 1??) but MBNA and Barclaycard didn't vote(19% of debt)Barclay Bank did though. One modification of slight ££ increase, taking the contributon to under 50p to the pound and the usual winfall decrees etc.

I a so happy about this and to think during the IVA Proposal process the case was closed for wee bit as I put it to hold! It is a such a big step to take and there are no guaranteers.

I have aways paid creditors regularly and kept a good fanancial relationship with creditors by communicating and try not been late with payments till.... I decided I had to throw in the towel as I couldn't keep this up anymore...I had nearly nothing to live on and go for a IVA.

I am with ClearStart and they were wonderful and provided much support! This is so inportant.

This site have also helped me in many ways as it had excellent information.

Good luck with anyone going for an IVA.....there is light at the end of the tunnel but persverance is the key and lots of good luck.

I totally agree with you sonyse2t5 - I have a prepaid card and to be honest I don't even like using that! I much prefer handing over cash. I've used the prepaid card a couple of times and it felt wrong - I suppose that's good really!

I think that's brilliant. It's so much more powerful to hand cash over for something rather than to use a card.

Well Done sonyse2t5, thats great news [:D] !!!

It is definitley a problem that the society we live in is a very instant, buy now pay later society. The value of money overall has been lost.

Hi
At the debt evening last Wednesday Ian Holland stated " we need to give people a second chance. This should be financial rehabilitation, not perjury"
How true that is.
An IVA is not only a great vehicle for addressing your debt problems but a great way to change your whole attitude towards dealing with money

I am sure that whei I first got a credit card (early 1980s?????) the minimum monthly repayment was 5% of the outstanding balance. Since then this seems to have gone down to 3% or even 2% of the balance. What finally did for me was when the interest rate on cash advances (which I had come to rely on!) shot up to 27 per cent or more per annum. Surely the minimum payment should always be set higher than the monthly interest? I know at the end of the day it is the individuals choice to borrow but it does seem strange.

I heard that - anyway - when banks etc. write off some or all of their bad debts they can claim this back somehow as tax relief on their profits. Dont know if that is correct but - if it is - would seem like a good reason for them to support IVAs.
47 months completed - 13 months to go.
