£150 winter giveaway

Millions of families could be in line for a windfall of about £150 this winter as Gordon Brown seeks to reinvigorate his troubled premiership, it emerged.
Ministers are understood to be considering the one-off payment to all households in receipt of child benefit as part of a major economic package planned for the autumn.
The move, which officials stressed had not yet been given final approval, would help more than seven million families hit by soaring fuel bills.
It is one of a series of measures being mooted as part of an autumn fightback by the Prime Minister.

I second that, don't remember in the whole time of paying tax ever qualifying for anything. Those of us without children or children who've grown up, still have to pay the same rising energy/food/fuel/mortgage costs.

Im 24 and i'll be entitled to single person's tax allowance when i turn 25 in December!! and then i can have housing and tax benefit as i live alone.... However i have a full time Job and some ruling i have to be on a single room rent (currently don't qualify now) until im 25 i will then get the full entitlement!! Ill be surprised to see if i actually get anything !! Even if i am ill have to make most of it because my gf moves in next year!!

As Dave and I live together, have no children and both work we're entitled to pretty much nothing. Dave was told to apply for tax credits as he's self employed, but because I work and have a reasonably well paid job he didn't get anything. It's all very unfair.

Perhaps I could have cat benefit!

lol... didnt someone "foster cats"... Its silly how it all works because i was entitled to the benefit for 3 months then it stopped and it was £12 per week! not a great deal! But it was a surprise I earn a reasonable amount but just over a 1/3 goes out in rent and yet my local council promote you to seek help in benefits!!

You know the government need to help the people under 25 not at university that have their own home rented privately if they did that i wouldnt of got myself into the level of debt i am today!! I see why alot of "young mums" have children as life is better for them on benefits as ive seen someone with 3 children by 23 but getting nearly 2k in benefits a month which is soooo wrong - sorry to rant!!

Even with the poxy amount of child benefit you get, it's nowhere near enough compared to what a child actually costs. I know it was my choice to bring a child into the world, but a bit more wouldn't go amiss [:(!]. Kazzy x

Thats me again, single dad with 15 yr old daughter who also works full time.

The govt are idiots - they have over spent, have a huge deficit, are borrowing more money and are giving £150 away times ?? .

Hmmmm.. I smell an election !

We have seen lots of hairbrain scheme from this goverment from compensating for the lost of income(2 billion) from the abolishment of 10% basictax rate; abolishing of the stamp tax duty(3 billion??) and now this winfall you are reporting.....is it all to be funded by even more borrowing YES!! They say when you are in a hole stop digging.
