17 Weeks to Christmas

I know I'm early but I just like to be first[:D]....

It was the doctor's last patient consultation of Christmas Eve. A mother came in with her young daughter and asked if he would examine her because she had been showing some strange symptoms, including a significant increase in weight, sickness most mornings and a number of strange cravings.

He checked her out very carefully and eventually told the mother that her daughter was unquestionably pregnant. At which news she protested very strongly.

'Don't be ridiculous, my daughter has never been with a man'

The girl confirmed that this was true and added that she had never so much as kissed a man.

The doctor studied the girl very carefully, then quietly stood up, walked to the window and stared out of it.

Suspecting the worst the mother asked if there was something wrong.

"No, not really" replied the doctor. 'It might just be a coincidence, but the last time this happened a really bright star appeared the East.'

Christmas shouldn't be allowed in the shops until 1st December - bah, humbug!

I quite agree Skippy. I hate seeing everything go in the shops so early. They even decorate them in October.

I find myself driving to work at the end of October, looking to see which sad person is the first to have the house lit up.

I'm the opposite I'm afraid, I LURVE it when the shops put all their Christmas deccies up. Hubby won't let me put the tree up until December though![:(] X

I'm not a religious person, but I do think that Christmas is much too commercial these days with everyone being urged to buy things that get more expensive by the year. For those that have a lot of kids it must be a nightmare trying to provide the latest 'must haves'.

It's the same in the supermarkets. The trolleys are piled high with food and drink, most come to well over £100, and sometimes a lot more. Majority of it will probably be thrown away.

It makes me laugh that people are obviously 'stocking up' because the food shops won't be open for two days! They have enough food to last them for two weeks!

Sorry about the rant! I do like Christmas and my tree and outside lights (very tasteful ones though!) go up at the beginning of December. I'm a bit of a humbug after though, because they come down on January 1st!

I'm with you on this one Jan! Apparently Debenhams have already got their Christmas stuff in - I know we haven't had much of a summer, but really! My tree normally goes up around 10th-12th December and comes down on 6th January. I can't bear the all the plastic decorations and inflatables that people have, all trying to outdo each other. We have a tree and some lights in the bedroom window (the bedroom is in the front) and that's it.

I get fed up with hearing about how parents are paying over the odds and fighting to get this year's must have present - how about saying no and teaching their little darlings the value of money, and the true meaning of Christmas.

Sorry if I've offended anyone with my rant - I do like Christmas, but I feel it's far too commercialised.

i must admit i do like xmas & love spoiling people.but this yr will be different.i know that the value of gifts isnt important & will def be using my creative talents this yr to make home made gifts.but for as long as i can remember xmas has always been courtesy of mr.visa.& my xmas eve excitement was always plagued with feelings of guilt & shame that id run up yet more debt & how i was ever going to pay it back[:(]but this yr on xmas morning i know i can wake up with a clear conscience & enjoy the day[:D]x

I have done half of my christmas shopping, bought the biggest things first and now just working my way through getting the smaller stuff.
Its really difficult this year though, knowing what to get them.
The youngest is the hardest to buy for. He hasnt played with most of the stuff we bought him last year, he would rather have a kinder egg toy....cheap i know but not great for christmas xxxx
