Hi Guys, long time no speak! Hope everyone on the forum is well.

As we are now nearing the end of the 10 months of council tax payments and are looking forward to two 'free' months, can anyone tell me whether the monies that would usually be paid to the council will have to be paid over directly to my IP towards my IVA.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kazzy x

No - most IPs would turn a blind eye to this, as I am sure that there are other areas of expenditure which have been higher along the way as well.

Hi Kazzy, good to see you back.

We're keeping ours for ourselves. Comes in useful as contingency money!

Good point and as Melanie says, a few bob extra to meet other bills will come in handy, if it isn't needed then putting it away as a contingency as Jan points out is a good idea, maybe even a much needed break for some?

Certainly makes a welcome change from the constant round of never ending bills.

Hello! Our company knows about that we all pay council tax over 10/12 months. So they divide it up over 12 months to make 12 month equal payments - though we have to pay it in 10 months. Example of mine is: 96pounds over 10/12 months but they put it on our I&E as 77pounds. It makes life very in the IVA harder as we have to pay 96 not 77.
They also did this with my Child Tax Credits - as you get 13 payments a year & @ time of my IVA I was getting 202 a month they worked it out that we get 219 a month - spreading the 13th payment out across they year - this also makes our IVA life very hard.
Sometimes we barely manage at all & worry we are set to fail.
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X

That's awful Lynsey. Have you asked your IP to reassess your payments as there's no point in struggling if there's something they can do.

Hi Skippy - I have posted a thread on Income & expenditure worries & explained a bit more of our situation on there. I have been in contact with our company last november 08 & I have yet to speak to IP as I never have. Thank you for your reply.

You should be able to find your IP via this link lynsey:

You can email him/her direct then.

Our council allows 12 months direct debit if you prefer rather then 10 larger ones.

Sorry to be rude but fat chance of that with ours! Though you can skip a month & add it on to Feb or March if you have a good enough reason. Other wise you end up with arrears & they threaten you with court action & being never being able to pay in monthly payments again!

I cannot understand why some IP firms strive to make their clients lives so difficult. No wonder the failure rate is so high, and it is about time creditors took notice of this as they must be losing rather than gaining money as a result.

I guess IP's are the same as any other business....you get some very good and some very very poor. You would think commonsense would prevail and Ip's would help to ensure the IVA can be completed, unfortantely, this is not always the case.
