Here are ten useful phrases for responding to Christmas presented you would rather not have received:

1. Thanks a lot!
2. My word! What a gift.
3. Well, well, well ...
4. If I hadn't put on so much weight recently it would have fitted me perfectly.
5. Gosh, I hope I never lose this. We're always losing things around here.
6. It's great; but I'm worried about the jealousy it may create.
7. Just my luck to get this, on the Christmas I promised to give all my gifts to charity.
8. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to use this at work.
9. Frankly, I don't deserve this.
10. Really, you shouldn't have.

Have a nice day xxx

I can admit to using some of those!

You get that sinking feeling as well don't you?

I'll be listening out for them now when I give people their gifts!

We don't buy each other gifts so it's nice to receive a little something, in fact anything I'm appreciative of.

We exchange token gifts now rather than splashing out on things we don't really need.

Possibly if family weren't round for Christmas we wouldn't bother with doing that.

Another one is:

"Thats nice" - the word "nice" has actually no meaning to anything n to be honest it doesnt sound "nice" when you say it!!!

Must admit these days that I usually get asked what I want so don't end up with something I don't like.

snap my family always ask what we want so at least we're getting something we want or need.
New front door is our christmas present!
As for the naff presents, i just can't hide that expression, so i think most folk know if i don't like it - i prefer to give presents than receive for that reason.
Luckily we're doing a budget christmas this year and i've quite enjoyed it if honest - getting good at spotting bargins these days! xxx

We had two new tyres for the car last year, and a new vacuum cleaner this year from my parents.

I would far rather have practical these days!

I'm more the practical type too, I've chosen what daughter is buying me myself and I have got hubby two things they only total £6.00 but we don't normally bother so I will have to tell him prior to Christmas to get me something or he won't and then he'll feel bad!

At least now we do tend to buy things we need rather than rubbish as we would have done in the past.

I've just put my tree and some other bits up, I'm pushing the boat out in a minute and going off to Wilko's just need some new plain silver and white baubles for an idea I've got, seen it on the front of a lidl mag to be truthful, it's just a vase filled with baubles and I've just the vase but no spare baubles!
