I do not know if Grant Thornton vote on their own proposals. Perhaps you can find out for me in due course.

I have had my phone cut off, I have never before been without a landline, my washing machine broke down and I had to replace it so I used the phone bill money. I have every intention of paying BT and have set up a direct debit with them but I am in no rush to have it reconnected, its bliss.

Hi all

Just read all this thread and can relate to all of it. Storm I have just this week had dealings with CapQuest. I sent a letter of authority to Egg but CapQuest are insisting I send one to them to prevent further action. I pointed out that I was dealing with Egg and they already had the letter but they told me the only way to prevent further action was to fax details through to them. The Coop informed me my account had been passed to a collection agency called Phoenix but I noted they call me from the same number as the Coop and are in fact in the same building. My main creditor, MBNA have informed me that I must pay a minimum payment of approx £350 to prevent the debt being sold. I was assured that if the debt was sold the company buying it would reject any IVA outright. I pointed out that I regularly read a forum about IVAs and that most people post that this is not the case but they were certain my IVA would be rejected. (Yes Mel I have name and time of call!!) I politely told them I would need to discuss this with my IP at which point I was potentially offered a short settlement of 25%. I need to ring back tomorrow after discussing this with my IP. This is following on from an original offer of 40% which I had to decline.
It seems they are keen to settle now for less rather than wait 5 years in an IVA.

I have 5 other creditors and have not heard a word from any of them since the letters of authority were sent 2 months ago.

In case any of you are wondering why I dont have a creditors meeting yet 2 months after appointing my IP it is totally down to delays at my end regarding re mortgaging my property. Mel is my IP and I cannot fault her advice and reassurance every time I have spoken to her. Often people post here asking for us to recommend a good IP. I wholeheartedly recommend Mel to everyone. I can't help thinking that had I gone the TV route I would now be posting on here along the lines of "IVA failed - what now?" or "feel so let down by my IP" etc.

Mel has allowed time for things to be put in place to provide the best possible return for my creditors thus giving my IVA the best chance of success. I know the proposal is getting near now. I can cope with a few more weeks of letters and phone calls.

Talking of which, Mel I will give you an update tomorrow.

Regards

Dave

Message to Storm:

You do have an amazing knowledge of how the creditors collection teams work. Are you in the industry?

Incidentially if the 'Rotweiller' team start chasing me from Co-op it won't be aa problem. We have a lovely puppy that is just starting to be trained at home so I will just be saying Sit and Down to them on the phone. Sure they'll appreciate that!

Sorry, I've got to step in here - Rottweilers are lovely! I feel it's an insult to Rotties to compare them to debt collectors [:)]

Onwards and upwards!!!

UPDATE: [V][V][V][V]
Just had a call from my Grant Thornton contact, she has finally managed to confirm that the correct Capital One department received my IVA proposal on the 2nd April but they had omitted to update their computers, consequently their call centre people have been giving me all this grief and basically calling me a liar because they haven't kept their systems up to date.
The situation is stressful enough without this, roll on the 17th and hopefully an end to this daily hassle[xx(][xx(]
Well done Grant Thornton and thank you for the excellent reassurance and support [:)][:)][:)]
IVA COMPLETED ON THE 17th MARCH, FINAL I&E COMPLETED 26th APRIL, COMPLETION CERTIFICATE ARRIVED 2nd AUGUST

I had a phone call from Morgan Stanley today, missed my first payment 6 days ago (£80), they said if I paid half the amount that would be outstanding by the next statement (£160), had to pay straight away, they would take no further action, ie pass the debt on to a debt collection agency. Explained I was proposing IVA, said they knew but paying them wouldn't constitute maikng a preferential payment because the IVA wasn't in place yet. Was then passed on to a second person who said he would allow me until the 25th to make a payment, said If I could have made the payment I would have done, they said they weren't lying to me and my IVA probably wouldn't be sorted out until the end of May so I had to deal with them now..... and I'm six days late on my first missed payment, doesn't bode well for the next month or so.

If your IP advised you to not make any payments then stick to that.
You must be strong and not give in to any creditor demands, unless

advised by your IP.
