Hi,
I am 63 months in of a 66 month IVA extended due to job loss 2.5 years ago and have never felt more deflated than what i do now.
It's like my whole life has been bogged down and still see no end to this IVA thing.
Most of the posters who i used to see have all most probably got there Completion Certificates now and can move on with there lives but i still soldier on with the struggle which is exactly what it is with No Tax Credits anymore and the cost of living going through the roof.
The whole thing has been a Roller Coaster and my family have really had to go without some things through the whole of this thing and feel like i have had to pay the full penalty.
I felt like it was my obligation to pay back what i owed but never in a million years did i think it would be this painful.
63 months in and still see no light at the end of the tunnel

That light will turn on very soon, Andrew. You have done so well getting this far ... one step at a time -- and only a few more steps to go .... hang in there.

I am sure, Andrew. I think that applies to most, if not all, of us. To be sure it isn't an easy right, but it IS transitory .....

...this, too, shall pass :-)

Keep the faith, Andrew, you have done so well to get this far and as Foggy says only a few more steps to go. We found the last 5 months the worst but they did pass and yours will too. Have a virtual pat on the back for what you've achieved so far.
Life after IVA is wonderful.

Year 1 = Relief
Year 2 = Entering the Wilderness Years
Year 3 = Painful and worst part of IVA
Year 4 = Agonizing as there seems No End
Year 5 = Rehabilitated
Extended 6 Months = Totally P****d off with the whole thing and just want an End to it all and get on with my Life!!!!!!

Just the way i perceive doing an IVA!!!!!

I am sorry you feel like this Andrew. Your creditors agreed to write off an element of your debt, and you only have three payments left. Makes me feel quite sad as I remember how pleased you were at the outset.

I can imagine having the finish line so close must be really frustrating, we are just 12 months in and that finish line just seems like a dream far far away, I feel strangled by our iva and every day it hurts, things are getting harder and harder, cost of living going up, income going down, it scares me how an earth I'm going to survive another 5 years like this, it feels like a 6 year punishment, which I know I deserve, did you feel like this at any point in the early days? Just think now, just 3 months to go, not 3 years or more, anymore!

I remember the feeling when it hits home that you cant carry on even paying the minimum payments anymore and that sick feeling when you think your going to lose everything.so the iva even though a struggle is nothing compared to what it was like before.
if you get your I@e right(and put down everything that you need to )then it should not not be that hard.if something changes let your iva company know and stand by your guns if they say we cant do that.thats the whole key to an iva being a slog or bearable.you not got far now and if your with mel then you are not going to be waiting any longer than necerssery for you cc.keep your chins up[:)]

We are half way through and it seems as though the end will never come, we are also faced with the prospect of re-mortgaging after 5 years or paying for another year after that, our repayments are over £600 a month which seems really high when I see what other people are paying on here, I just wish it would all end.

your payments are all relative to your disposable income.if your disposable income is higher then you will pay more.if you have a problem with managing double check your I@e sheet and if something needs changing your ip can reduce it by up to 15% without asking the creditors.if your debt was high just think how much you will save at the end of as I like to think of it(your 5 year intrest free loan)and what you would be paying out now if not in iva.halfway point is always hard but it goes and the end is more nearer than it will ever be.

Hi Melanie,
I think you might have the wrong end of the stick here,
It's just that it i have been so long in my IVA that i just want this chapter to end and move on to a Debt Free Future.
I think i have done well and can give myself a pat on the back that i have managed to get this far really.
But on the other side i am still grateful for what you and your company did and maybe i was just letting a little frustration out.[:D]

I remember that sick terrified feeling and how awful it was before, I already did 5 years on a DMP before I started iva so that was 6 years ago now, seems like lifetime ago, remembering back now makes iva seem not so bad, so thank you for the reminder x

Hi andrewgoodman121,

I would be surprised if Melanie has misconstrued your posts, I`m sure she understands your frustrations bourne from nearly five and a half years in an IVA.
We all get uptight at times, and often feel very down as circumstances occur.

I too am with Melanie`s company and I can honestly say that they have been superb in every aspect, and from reading many posts from other people in IVA`s experiences with some other IVA providers,I consider myself lucky to be so.

That doesn`t mean I don`t get frustrated, and that`s what the forum`s for[:D]

I must say that Melanie and her team have been marvelous throughout and i am not knocking them in the slightest.
I think that sometimes some IP's they need to know how painstaking doing an IVA is for customers and it is most definitely a frustrating gets you down at times period in your life if you are doing one and it is not all as rosie as some people think as it is b***** HARD GOING!!!.
The things that really drove me to frustration was when all your friends and colleagues lives are all moving forward for the better and you are stuck on the starting grid of life and feel like you have been lapped 5 times as with an IVA your life is on HOLD!!! and you feel like KICKING YOURSELF!!! for getting in this situation in the first place.
Melanie and her team have been fantastic though and in know way do i feel ungrateful as my situation could have been loads worse.

63/66 Hurry Up the Next 3 Months
