As some may have read we are currently with melanies team and entering an iva.
Thursday night at work i got a call from a friend that his wife died at home at 46 !!!
hes 100 mile away and was obviously in bits so after work i drove up there.
She had no life cover as he had insurance in place for her but didnt think shed need it. He was scared that he couldnt afford a funeral.
They had creditors chasing them but were using the ostrich method, head in sand,so the first thing i did was phoned them to explain.

The next thing i did was visited her work and had a chat with her personell lady, he wasnt up to talking.
found that she had a pension through work and that had life cover.
Bottom line is that shes left him enough for the funeral and to sort his debts out.
i could see the weight lifted from his shoulders as i told him.

Dint have time to drive home so went straight to work, 44 hours with an hours kip but it was worth it.
Life insurance? silly not too really.

That's terrible Mark, I'm so sorry for your friend. I'm glad you could help him sort things out though.

Neither of us have life insurance as to be honest we can't afford it at the moment. I'm lucky that I have a reasonable death in service pay out from work so I've nominated Dave to receive that, and we've also nominated each other to receive any pay outs from our various pensions.

I don't blame you. We don't have children, and Dave's children are grown up so it's not quite as bad for us.

I have some with work and a pension but I doubt hubby has any with his work and I know we've nothing in place for him. I have no spare income to buy any at this point but will most definitely putting it into place when IVA complete or circumstance changes.

Condolences to your friend. x

I would rather eat beans for a week to make sure I had some cover.

I would hate to leave my loved ones without a penny to toast me properly.

I dont want to end up on the BBQ in the garden!!!

It's a risk we're having to take I'm afraid, circumstance won't allow. Dog insurance has been cancelled as I'm trying so hard to get back on track with my IVA x

I think we were lucky in getting to keep up the dog insurance etc. We would be up the creek without a paddle without it!!!

We were allowed dog insurance but circumstance has had me change my finances as so much has happened during my IVA that my whole finances has had to be re-jigged. Not sure what'll happen if either of the dogs get ill, another cross that bridge if it happens scenario I'm afriad. x

I've just changed Harry's pet insurance from Pet Plan to Homebase. Homebase are now doing 'cover for cats' and 'cover for dogs'. The cover seems to be comparable, I've got a lower excess and it's less than half the price.

That's what I thought! It's whole of life cover, but they do pay less in vets fees than Petplan, but overall it seems a better policy!

In case anyone with pets is interested the website is www.homebasepetinsurance.co.uk

That's what we found - Dave has high cholesterol and heart disease runs in his family. He's also 20 years older than me, so it really pushes the price up.

Thats a reality check for us all eh Marky? We have insurances and wills etc...as I have children from a previous marriage, its something I've always had in place. Although, when things were really up against it in the IVA, it was a struggle.

Thanks for the link Skip - I'm shopping around for dog insurance now - we had 4 weeks free and I want to get the best plan we can afford in place....hopefully won't have to use it, but you never know!
