you know i didn't look at it that way, but your so right, her friends parents were a bit irresponsible to ask her without checking with me first, but then obviously they don't know about the iva.
anyway she wont be going and thats that, it is far more important that i get through the next 5-6 years and keep a roof over our heads etc.

Hi, sorry to hear you're in pain& a bit down, hug.

can feel it's hard for you. it's a big lesson for your daughter too, she'll know treats like this holiday have to be financed,so big for her to learn about saving for these things rather than using a card you can't afford.

you could plan ahead to have some treats when her friend goes away on that holiday, that'd give you time to recover& save, she would have something to look forward to.
hope you soon feel better x

thanks for advice everyone, as for my shoulder its strapped up and im starting physio next week, i had a dislocation last week, and i can honestly say despite 17 hours of child birth on both children, this is by far the worst pain i have ever experienced, so bad in fact i vomited and fainted!

Hi Hope you feel better soon pet ! Plenty and sleep and rest. I'm sorry you feel bad. If it helps I also grew up with 2 sisters and a very tight budget all the time while some of my friends had everything they wanted. It was tough sometimes but I learn't to appreciate my parents more because watching them put themselves last in order to get us our wee things ended up meaning more to me in the long run than fancy trips away and the most expensive designer gear. She seems like a lovely daughter who is understanding and it's only natural to feel bad but she sees everything you do and appreciates it and loves you for it please dont worry ... :) xxxxx

It is heartwrenching when you feel that you have let your kids down, but that holiday is so expensive and even if you had that sort of money she coud do far more with it than go somewhere she has already been for two weeks. I really do wish that parents would be a bit more responsible before suggesting silly ideas without checking with the people who would be affected by this first - I find it all pretty selfish to be honest, and I am so sorry that this has upset you Kat.

i did initially feel like i was letting her down, i guess we would all like to give to our children the things that make them happy.
but all is fine now.
for her to understand how expensive a holiday it is, together we searched the individual prices of everything required for the florida trip on the internet, and listed them all on paper, then we added up all the possible money we could put towards the trip over the next year, ie birthdays, christmas, easter, the necklace, and my parents offering to pay her £5 per week if she did a small amount of cleaning for them, and still there was a deficit.
but once it was all down on paper and she realised how much she would have to do without all year to have the possibility of just two weeks away, she gave it some thought, woke up the following morning and said, "you know what, if i could save that much money i would rather put it towards driving lessons and maybe a car when i am older".
now i think thats a great result, if i had been thinking like that at her age maybe i wouldn't be where i am today.

What a fantastic educational lesson you have taught her Kat - a lot of parents (me included!) could learn an awful lot from that post. In our house the bank of Mum and Dad have often come to the rescue - when I wish I had done something like you have done with your daughter. Glad that things have resolved themselves for you.

Florida is such an expensive place to go to. My step daughter can go next year as her mother owns a time share there. As she can't afford the flights and theme part tickets it will be a no-no.

I think you have a great daughter kat. I think driving lessons will be much better for her!
