A baby is fantastic news.I am in the process of trying to change my current rented accommodation. Initally the letting agent said the credit reference agency had failed my application because of my IVA but I heard last week that they have got positive references from my current landlord so are discussing it with the new landlord - i should get a decision next week. Your IVA will be over before you know it and young children are a lot cheaper than you think - you will get lots of gifts and there are loads of good quality nearly new baby stuff out there. Don't let your current temporary situiation override a decision that will last a lifetime. Good luck to you both xs
forget the bad stuff, remember the good stuff!!

thankyou all again for your kind words - well we made the decision today are are we going to go ahead with it - for every negative we raised we simply found more positives - i must admit - getting in such a financial mess and now dealing with has made me grow up so much from my early 20's that i really do believe i can make this work!

Of course im sure everyone on here will hear from me soon with more financial worries lol

Firstly you will received child benefit at £81 per week, and there may be some entitlement to Child Tax Credit or Working Families Tax Credit, so that is worth exploring.

Firstly - congratulations!! I don't want to spoil things for you, but I think Melanies figures are slightly wrong here - it's £81 per month, not week. I don't want you thinking you'll have an extra £81 a week!!! Even so, don't woory, things will work out for you.

Ouch - that's the second time I've got that wrong on the forum. I don't know why I do it - I've been working with child benefit figures for the last 20 years - and I know they are paid monthly!! Need a holiday!

Congratulations on your good news.

Im sure friends and family will help with the cost of baby things and everyone buys clothes when the baby arrives.

The best thing here is that you can start being a parent with a far better view of money and your child can only learn from that. By the time he/she starts school you will be IVA free.

Best of luck xx

a well deserved holiday too melanie!

ok well just been throwing some figures and basically i think we can afford things JUST while the gf is still working - obv once she goes on maternity leave and gets a reduced income the maths just does not add up - even with me selling cat and biking 8 miles to work everyday as that will save 130 quid a month!

im considering phoning my IP - and discussing that i have re budgeted to obv include what i paying them monthly (360) i dont want to decrease that at all long term as i know out of maternity i can still afford it but will ask if there is any chance to temporarlily decrease it for say 4 months when lynda is only bringing home 60% income ? then either add more payments at end of 5 yrs or pay more once im out the worse if it?

hope SOME of that makes sense on here lol

Selling the cat!!! Do you think you would get much for your moggie then!!!

I have had clients in to see me today who have had a new baby and are asking for a six month payment holiday for their IVA. I will put this to creditors and am sure that it will be accepted. You might like to get your own IP to try the same.

hi guy, well just been to a few letting departments today and basically its good news - based on lyndas earning she will pas a credit check for upto 550 a month - if we are looking at 600/650 then we have to supply that difference upfront - ie the one months deposit and 600 quid for 6 months of the difference - with lynda as the main name on the house it all seems doable.

i am now researching just what maternity pay she will get, i believe its 90% for the first 6 weeks then 60%after - we will struggle to make ends meet with only 60% of her earnings so will have to try and please poverty to the familys for some help for a few months (im also ebaying EVERYTHING at the moment) - my ip has pretty much kindly turned a closed eye on this!

just wandering if it would be worth contacting my ip and trying to arrange reduced payment just for around 4 months of the maternity and then make this up at the end of the iva of once we back on top? is that sort of condition approachable?
