This is only my personal opinion of course - but may I put forward a suggestion that negative / unpopular / non-conformist posts SHOULD be allowed to remain on the Forum? There are plenty of us - me included - who are prepared to put forward an argument against those we do not agree with and some of the deleted posts deserve a response rather than removal!!! So many of us are in good and continuing IVAs etc. that I am sure there will always be many voices to rebut those who are critical without proper cause.

I agree that spam, sales pitches, and anything offensive, should be immediately deleted - no question.

I just say this because when I visited the IVAC Council Forum a while back there was one contributor who seemed to be criticising this Forum for one reason or another. I do not agree with him / her but think this Forum is more than capable of holding its own. What do others think?

On the other hand, there are a lot of people out there who monitor this forum before deciding what to do with their problem. Whilst they deserve to have honest answers, I don't think negative or unpopular posts will help.

I have found this forum very useful and it is great that there are friends on here who can help me with any problems. Most of us need cheering up, I don't think negative posts will help with this

I had in mind a recent post by someone who was critical of IPs / IVA Providers. Melanie made an excellent reply but then the original post got removed. I think that with people like Ms. Giles and Mr. Millington around the professionals on this forum will always be able to put right anyone making unfounded or unwarranted accusations against their profession - or any aspects of the Insolvency Procedure.

Kallis -

Thats a very good point - I am interested to hear what others think.

In my view this Forum is one of the best because it is always conducted in a polite and sensible way. So many Forums on the Internet are just plain offensive.

BUT - if someone does choose to post something out of order is it preferable for others to argue the point - or should it just be removed??

Its a fine line and I certainly do not envy Admins decisions!! They have a tough job!!!

Our debt journeys, life styles, personalities and priorites are all very different as will be our opinions. I think that we should leave it up to the forum manager and admin to decide what is/isnt offensive. All new posters are given the benefit of the doubt and forum arguments are not often helpful, given the stress that debt is and considering that many will be quite nervous about making that first post.

I think it all depends on what the post is. If anyone is offended or bothered by a post, they can always ask admin to remove it. It is a free country after all, so people should be able to put what they like (within reason).

when I first started reading on this forum we were going to go through DFD.. but after reading some of the complaints on here, we found Melanie (thank God), and changed our minds..

So I think somethings are good for negative opinions, but when things are malicious or only somebodies bitter and personal opinions thats when Admin need to step in..

I am just considering a stressed individual thinking of making that first post. I think it unlikey if its a free for all. Some people can be very opinionated, I just dont think that is helpful, given the ethos of this forum.

Totally agree. Most of the time negative stuff is ok, but occasionally someone just throws something bad in and then walks away (metaphorically speaking) to see what happens. Those are the sort who should be removed (ie posts from a certain website who have been on here a few times and removed.)

Hi folks,
Interesting discussion.
However, we retain the right to be the final arbitrators in deciding whether a member is posting from a position of genuine experience and knowldedge or whether they are using this forum as a free ride to cheap publicity and pure sensationalism.
