Greetings one and all...

After the last lot of topics and my posts; I have been to my local Abbey National this morning and come back empty handed...

Just so happens on the day I have available to go in, not only is the one and only person to deal with new accounts not in today, but would have to book an appointment, so I will have to reschedule my basic contingency account at a later date.

While it was not an issue that I was advanced in my IVA, what was awkward, was the fact when I was informed that I would not be able to process occasional bills over the counter using bill-paying-slip, as they do not do that over the counter anymore and have not done for several years. I was then told that even if they did, the facility would not be available for a basic savings account as it defeats their policy of account purpose. So, I still have an issue to work out where to go within local as possible.

I did take the advice of others on here and looked at the next best option that also works with Post Offices, but that bank is not local to me, so, it seems not as straight forward as planned.

THE PUROSES OF THIS ACCOUNT:
1. As my bank is not "High Street", I need a facility to pay the odd bills that might come through with payment slips, so can be paid over the counter
2. This account is for contingency funds and so away from my VA Current account, so would like any savings in my new account to fund the odd bills... So, I do need actual counter service that will take the payment slips and allow this based on having a basic savings account...

Will keep searching!

Gordon

Try and do it on the telephone or by the internet as I managed to get two accounts opened this way.
ie Halifax and Nationwide basic accounts!

Good Luck

Hi Gordon,

I think that you may be able to pay some bills over the counter at the post office even if you don't have an account with a bank that has an agreement with them. That was how I used to pay some of my utility bills when I was at college (a few years ago admittedly).

Please let me know how you get on.

Kind regards,
Terry

Be warned that if you are paying in cheques Halifax take 7 WORKING days from the day after the cheque was paid in to clear the funds.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Igot a very basic bank account with Halifax and i opened it online if that helps. I pay direct debts and have an Electron card but no overdraft facility which is fine.

Maybe if you go in?
I opened mine specifically for my iva and they were fine about it. But that was 3 years ago so i dont know if their policies have changed since but im assuming not because my account is still going and i have heard on the forum of different banks closing accounts.
I believe HSBC also do a very basic account too.

Try Natwest step account....I did it on the phone. They are very efficent in processing the app on the phone.I opened two savings and a Step(basic)current account. The cash(Solo) card doubles up as a debitcard(Uk use only, not quite a maestro...but nearly 1 million retailer take it - better than Visa Electron card, you can't buy a travel ticket on VE! Useless card)

Curiously, no credit problems when they ran their checks....they did say -Have you been BR? Have you got any CC cards I said NO to both.
