Hi,

I'm 3 years into my IVA and it's going okay but I'd like to get a debit card on my bank account (I'm with Nationwide). I've got a prepaid visa but would like to have a card I don't have to topup.

I know Nationwide will reject me as I've read up on their policy. My question is who else could I use? I don't want to pay a monthly fee and I have a lot of creditors in the IVA who will probably refuse me.

List of bank creditors in IVA: Lloyds, HSBC, Barclays, Natwest, RBS, Halifax, BOS, Co-op, Citibank.

Any suggestions? (I know it's asking a lot!)

Hi Hunter,

You could try Yorkshire Bank, but I don't know if you could get a debit card.

You may well not be able to get one as the IVA friendly banks are all creditors.

Hopefully someone else can come along with a suggestion?

Hi Hunter,
Hubby and I both have a step account with Natwest. This has the solo feature so the card can be used as a debit card.
This is Natwest's most basic account and we had no problems opening the accounts.
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, RBS and Natwest are one of their creditors.

Secure Trust is the one that Melanie mentions, but it is a paid for account.

I've has a look on the Secure Trust site (the one recommended by Melanie?) and they do 2 accounts a 'Prepaid Current Account' aco**** and an 'Evolution' account.

They look pretty much identical on the website - both offer a prepaid Mastercard you can load money onto and on-line banking but the Evolution account seems to be free whilst the Prepaid one is £12.50 per month.

Has anyone got the Evolution Account or know if there are difference to the Prepaid account?

Thanks

Oops! Just found out the Evolution account costs £12.50 per month - i.e. £150 per year. Oh well back to the drawing board!

I have a basic Co-Operative Bank current account with a Visa Delta debit card. I had no problem getting it. I think the Co-Op is not as adverse to IVA’s as some banks, e.g., HSBC and First Direct.

Co-op is no good for Hunter though as they were one of their creditors.

You could try Yorkshire Bank Helen, if you do, let us know how you get on.

Hi

You could try the mannaged bank account services:

Thinkbanking with mastercard-debit£12.50 allows standing orders and direct debits

Secure Trust Bank with mastercard prepaid £12.50 per month allows standing orders and direct debits

Cardone Banking, Red88, ExtraDirect and DebtMatters banking all run through Spectrum Financial Services offers a prepaid mastercard standing orders but no direct debits £12.50 per month

The Onyx Service / CredECard Services allows standing orders only - £3.99 a month with prepaid mastercard

Clearcash IAccount you dont get your own account number etc but a prepaid mastercard allows standing orders £9.99 per month

Both the Spectrum Services annd CredEcard services accept Fasterpayments so monies transfered should be available in a couple of hours.

Other than that I would suggest speaking to a Barclays manager and see if they can help.

Coop wont allow an accouunt to someone who is in an IVA as the debt is still live they told me that when I had an IVA but when I Went bankrupt they allowed it.

Best of Luck
