Additioanl Income During Bankruptcy

Hello all, and may I wish you all a happy, healthy new year. Sorry I haven't been logged on for a while, have been ill, with no internet access at home [:(].

Since my last post, I have had my income and expenditure agreed, and signed my IPA.

I am just wondering, will I have to pay 100% of any additional income into my bankruptcy? For example, salary increases, bonuses etc.

Please do not misunderstand me, I fully expect to pay towards my creditors etc, but if I was able to keep even a small amount of my annual bonus or salary increase, it would help so much!

As for Christmas [xx(]. Explaining to nieces and nephews that I didn't have a lot of money, and couldn't get them very much, and telling older members of my family and my friends that I couldn't afford presents was really hard.

Still, onwards and upwards!

Hi Douglass, sorry to hear you've been ill and I hope you're feeling better.

When I had a payrise I notified the OR and they sent me out a new income and expenditure form (IPOQ) and when they assessed it they didn't take any of the extra money! I have heard that it depends on how much extra you are getting - mine was about £65 a month and some of my expenditure had increased so there wouldn't have been a lot left.

If the OR does increase your IPA, they will still only take a percentage of your surplus. Don't forget to allow for any increases in expenditure.

How are you finding life now? I know what you mean about Christmas, it is hard to say to people that you haven't got much money, but the people I told were quite pleased as they were broke as well!

Hi Skippy, thanks for your answer. Life is quite hard at the moment - unexpected expenditure such as medicines, prescriptions (I had to have 4 recently!), knocks you for six!
I have this deep guilt about letting my creditors down. I have been suffering from depression for the last 2 months also.
But coming through it now, slowly but surely. I don't think people realise just what you go through, emotionally, when you declare yourself bankrupt.
How are things with you? I hope you are keeping well!

I'm sorry that you've had problems Douglass. I'm not sure whether you're paying into your IPA yet, but if you are, don't forget that you can ask the OR to reassess your payments if you're struggling.

Please don't feel guilty about your creditors - you have had a really rotten time but you have faced up to things. I seem to remember that Northern Rock were one of your creditors, which made an IVA impossible so you did the best thing to let you move on with your life.

Declaring yourself bankrupt isn't easy (despite what some people think!) and I still panic about things even now.

I'm getting there - I had an accident in my car last week (the lamp post jumped out at me!) and I've had to postpone my dentist appointment to pay the excess. It was another thing that made me realise that when the money's gone it's gone and I've got no credit card to fall back on! I've got 11 weeks to go until I'm discharged and to be honest it's gone fairly quickly.

I hope things get better for you, and please keep posting, even if you only want a good rant about things. We're all here for you, and if I can help you in any way you know I will.
