Hi
Can someone let me know what we should be looking for in an IVA company please?

Also I was asked that the first two payments would go to a particular company first, is this normal? I also asked if instead of stopping paying our creditors now as they suggested could we not agree an IVA first, just in case the IVA is refused, does that seem stupid? They said they would waiver fees, if we did that.

Finally is an IVA the right thing for us, we have a together mortgage (northern rock) so have the unsecured element of 30k, then around 20k of other personal debts.

Thanks

Hi Sarah and welcome

You need to speak to speak to a compamy which does not charge upfront fees. Visit www.iva.com for a list of companies than can help you.

Please don't go with anyone that requires upfront fees as Jan says, I would also ask others on here as to how good their company's customer service is post approval, many seem to be great in the nomination phase but leave you a bit out on a limb afterwards and aren't that forthcoming with answers to queries later down the line if you situation changes, you want a company who is going to work for you over the next few years and get back to you with answers to queries in a timely manner

Was this company actually an IP firm or merely a firm who will package the case and eventually refer you on to an IP?

From the facts you have posted an IVA would seems to be a solution worth finding out more about, and I would recommend that you speak with an insolvency practitioner who can give you advice as to all of the options available to you at present.

Hi
I think I got the company through this page if I'm honest, from e calculator part and then they emailed me? I thought it was part of this page tbh.
The gentleman did seen really nice but I don't know what I'm supposed to get from the company etc. all that happened was we went through our money, I asked about fees and he mentioned the two upfront but then I said about I would want to pay until we had one in place and then he said about waivering them.

They are a good firm and do charge as they do all of the initial legwork before passing the details on to an IP.

Not heard of them waiving fees before though.

Ok thanks. I Think it was because I asked if we could continue paying creditors until the IVA is in place.

Pleased a good firm as he was incredibly nice and helpful.

They are a good firm and Andy Davie who runs the forum on a day to day basis works for them.

Hi Sarah

I had my IVA approved on the 14th December and am with Vincent Bond.

They are a great company I have even recomended them to a friend of mie.

As Jan said they do all the initial leg work and make sure you have provided all the necessary docs.

Once they had passed on my details to my IP it was only a matter of weeks before my date was set.

Hope this helps.
Clare

Hi Sarah - VB have a very good reputation for the work they do in preparing a case for an IP. If you are happy to pay the additional two months they require upfront on top of your IVA then there is no reason not to continue with them.
