Well .... during my IVA I operated a couple of cashminder accounts with the Co-Op: One for main DD outgoings and the other for Household spending. These accounts have served me well over the last 6 years or so and my intention was to keep them running "as is" for the foreseeable future.

However, with the number of school trips increasing I am finding the need for a cheque book more pressing --- the school use "parent-pay", which, frankly, is beyond my understanding. Luckily they still accept cheques (but no longer my old friend, cash).

So, this morning I popped into the Co-Op to see what could be done. My two Cashminders have been merged into a standard current account (with a chequebook and £5.50 rewards each month). I was offered an overdraft facility, which I turned down and came out with a new, shiny, 6% credit card (well, the real deal will be in the post). So Vanquis (39%) will be biting the dust :-)

And -- added bonus ..... I got chatted up by a young lady in the park :-)

Well done Foggy! We have just upgraded our Nationwide account to a full one, interest paying with a cheque book and also an excellent credit card. Still have a full Barclays account and I also have a Capital One card.

Co-Op offered me a savings account, but I will keep the Yorkshire Building Society one.

Nationwide one is great and we also managed to open accounts for both the grandkids.

Well done Foggy,

I enquired about opening a current account and savings account with first direct in november after my credit files were clean, they said they weren`t willing to oblige as I`d not long been out of my IVA.

I ended up upgrading my basic account to a current account and opening a savings account aswell with the bank I was with throughout my IVA, I also got a credit card with a standard high street interest rate with them that has a 26 month 0% purchase promotional rate too, though I am only using it for petrol purchases and pay off the full amount each month.

It felt very strange when the credit card came through the letter box, and I still feel uneasy when I use it
