Got a letter today about them being notified of us entering an IVA so they have closed/opened accounts, but the letter is worded so badly it suggested they'd wiped out the credit we had with them.

As it happens it HAS been transferred (and I was ready to scream at them for being thieving !?$%!s!!). Seems that we can just continue as before with monthly direct debits and it's just a matter of routine.

Was thinking of switching anyway not least because of the multitude of problems we've had with them recently (they tried to bill us for someone else's newly-built house, in addition to our actual bill, took 6 months and a whole lot of stress to get them to f-off and stop threatening us, I had at one point invited them to come around and view this new property which they clearly thought I was lying about!) [:(!]

Has anyone had any problems switching suppliers whilst in an IVA?

Lemsip - glad the issues with BG are sorted - i was keeping tight lipped about BG - as many people have done - i have also had some major issues with them - to the stage where i took a small claims out on them - it was settled after this - personally i would rather sit in the dark than deal with their Bloo*y stupidity and incompetence again. Another poster had the same issues and has managed to switch - have a look at a few comparison sites - and see whats around (as it depends on where you live/usage/etc)

We have had similar issues with BG since we moved - they tried to bill us for the new occupier of the flat we rented for six months money insisting they had not received our final meter reading - they couldn't explain why I had a letter in front of me that said sorry your'e leaving us and here is a cheque for 31.82 which we owe on closure of your account ! It went on for months !
Souther Electric / Gas are superb and have great customer care !

So glad I kicked them into touch years ago. Wouldn't recommend them if they were the last utility supplier on earth!!!

I have to say we're with BG as they were the only supplier who would offer a fixed tariff and haven't had any problems with them.

We've also got boiler insurance with them and that's been fine as well.

I wouldn't touch NPower with the bargepole - a horrible company staffed by idiots!

I'll have to do my homework, need to sort out this job stuff first though. Thanks for your help - we're up near Manchester so not sure who supplies around our way although I do remember we used to get N-Power(?) doing doorstep visits quite a lot.

I wouldn't go with anyone who does doorstep visits. I'd much rather research the best deal and contact the company myself than. I hate it when they knock on the door and proceed to tell me that I'm not on the best deal - how do they know?!?! I usually tell them where to go!

Hi Lemsip, They switched my account and man agd to actually wipe out my credit that I had accrued. Got it back now though after a monumental 'Rod' phone call to their customer service department threatening to take it way up on high. Have also (well in the process of)switched to Scottish Power; they have accepted me in IVA with no problems, and come highly reccomended by others. I like many others would not touch BG ever again.
