thanks Kal, hubby just text from work to say they've called again!! he had to ignore as was busy. I don't seem to have any up to now. Touch wood, but bracing myself.. Angela at Melanies office said they'd sent letters out also, so this mustn't be good enough for some

I can't remember getting so many calls, maybe I just blocked them all out! My poor mum got most of them during the day. Any I answered were told that I wasn't in!! a&l & mbna sold the debt to Max recovery well before the creditors meeting. I did get a lot of post though!
Everyone deals with them differently, and some are more aggressive than others. They are just doing their job and quite often have no idea what an iva is! They are not the ones who will decide at the creditors meeting so don't worry about anything they say.

are you continueing to pay something to your debtors then?
i was advised to stop payments so i'm not favouring one debtor over another.
i know what you mean i'm really soft and i'm terrible when there nasty on the phone cos i get really scared with the threats they make. one company who mnba sold my debt to are a nitemare. there letters really put the frightners on you and no matter how many times i write they never reply. they just keep sending the threatening letters.
i don't know what i'll do if our IVA fails.
once you hit rock bottom theres only one way to go and thats up, right???

They will say anything to make you pay them something. Don't let them get to you, if you get someone aggressive or threatening hang up! I didn't take any calls at all before my meeting. You don't have to put up with it. Your'e doing the best you can and you can't do more than that. It is a difficult time and emotions are all over the place but it will get better.

With regard to the telephone calls I would call them and get them to remove things like home and work numbers leaving only a mobile number or indeed just an address.

If you then get calls on the numbers you have requested they delete from their systems then I would advise they are breaking data protection as you have a right to them not contacting you by telephone especially with work numbers as long as you are willing to be contactable by mail or e-mail.

I too changed my tel number after lots & lots of silent calls (after reading Debbie’s post)my hubby insisted on it and it was the only request he made especially as none of my debt is his at all and he is willing to help me sort it I changed it a few weeks after contacting Mels team. I felt a bit cowardly & felt that I deserved to be punished & harassed after what I had done but the guilt factor is more than enough to cope with. One good thing is all the rubbish calls from sales people have gone as well.

I have written to everyone & now I just get letters & lots of them which I forward on.

Sleep deprivation is an awful thing. I have had 4 years of it ending up on sofa, spare room. I think it was worry & stress. Now I have gone to the other extreme and want to sleep all the time. I went to sleep at 8.30pm the other night & slept for 10 hours. I can not even remember doing that as a child. Problem is I still feel tired all the time.

Angela & Conniue I hope your hubbys feels better soon. I think what this forum lets you do it talk about your debt problems which is the only place some of us can do it therefore it has become a lifeline plus all the helpful info.

Barclaycard were the thorns in our side whilst our IVA was being set up phoning several times a day for me and hubby and in the end I would answer the call, find out who they were and who they wanted to speak to and if they wanted to speak to me I said I wasn't in!!! Worked a treat!!! But Barclaycard were absolutely useless at updating their database as we had a visa and mastercard each and yet they couldn't toggle the information! However strangely we never had any problem with Alliance & Leicester (loan).

Hubby's are strange creatures. My hubby was really good in the early days - sorting out paperwork etc then as soon as it was accepted he couldn't be bothered anymore apart from just to keep mentioning that he was worried about our finances - even when he didn't even know what state they were in!!!

Nowadays I've taken over complete control over them - I even have to deal with his 50% of the bonus as he doesn't and all that is left for me to do is find a big enough rocket!!!

If it is any help it does get easier as the months go on and I think it is fair to say that many people embrace their IVA learn to love it as a tool for good money management and living within your means and even having some savings!!!

Ditto with what Buttercup has said about your hubby's and the forum.

I think this thread goes to show that you cannot tell how any of the creditors are going to react.
Barclaycard for me were great - they wrote to me ages ago asking me to cut up my cards as i was entering an IVA (and this was right at the beginning)they would contact me no more! - whereas as i said A&L wanted to take us to court.
I am still to find out who voted on mine - will be intersting to see.
I just ignored most of the calls (using the answer phone) - and I have never given my mobile out to any of them.
It will be nice now to have the peace in the day.

Before we moved we were getting around 10 calls a days, everyday from 8am-10pm from creditors. I ended up turning the phone ringer off and just used to watch the light flash when it was ringing. Fortunately, they didn't have our mobile numbers so we told family/friends to ring our mobiles if they needed to get in touch with us!!! Sticking my head in the sand I know but really couldn't face the threats that these faceless creditors dole out....
It's nice to be back......

I don't see it as sticking your head in the sand - the fact is we have all done something about our debt, we have recognised we have a problem, and taken the correct steps in correcting it.
My Ip advised me to ignore the phone calls - so who was i to ignore such great advice!!!
Like i said ignoring them does no harm.
