Thought id add a thread that isnt money orientated
soooooo any of you out there have an allotment?
I know alot of people will say WHAT but hey £22 a year with free water and veg coming out of your ears is not bad LOL

I used to have an allotment - well actually we had four all joined together, and used to love the growing of fresh fruit and veg. Hubby and I had so much fun in the early years of our marriage, learning about different plants and trying out new things, and were sad to leave them when we moved house.

For anyone with children they are a great way of having good family days, and teaching the kids about healthy nutrition and biology. It is such as shame that much of this valuable land is being sold on for redevelopment.

Well i must be the luckiest person on the planet coz my 2 s*** for england.
Seriously i ask myself every day how a Shetland pony can produce so much of the stuff.
He does more than the big one does LOL

had mine since april, grown carrots, caulis, cabbage, beetroot, potatoes, beans, onions
cannot beat homegrown veg they taste sooooo much better than the shop bought stuff, if you knew what they did to the veg etc before they pacakge you would be amazed

we used to have loads of allotments where we live but Asda extended over most of them.. shame really. my dad used to have one and we loved it when were kids

i am sooo envious look divine!!we moved here 8 mnths ago & the land at the back of us is all allotment plots.we were so excited by this & couldnt wait to start our "good life" way of life & even better,the 1 right outside our back door had been abandoned.so we rang the council to enquire only to be told "sorry,there is a lengthy waiting list & it could be yrs before you get 1"!! even after sending 4 letters stating how keen we are to renovate 1 of the STILL ABANDONED plots they wont let us have one[:(][:(]

well,the bloke who has one next to the abandoned one which is right at the back of us, actually gave us one of his keys and said "dont listen to the council just get stuck in & make it nice then they'll have to give it you" but knowing our luck we'd end up gettin done!!! its not fair because we are so keen & it would be an extension of our back yard.but they just keep saying that were at the bottom of the list[:(]& like i said there are loads that are vacant/abandoned,but they just keep saying no!!![:(!]

yeah,we just wanted to make it look nice,cause at the moment its all overgrown & full of rubbish.but knowing our luck we'd spend months working really hard on it & making it nice,then theyd allocate it to someone else.even a retired councillor from up the road has tried putting a word in for us,but it hasnt worked!!..oh well not to worry...continue to enjoy yours look divine,i bet your homegrown produce is delicious...[:p]x

another tack to take could be to take piccies of the crap allotment then pop to your local paper and show them, telling them you want to take it on but council can't be bothered. A bit 'in yer face' I know but it works sometimes. Local papers love a good anti council story[}:)][}:)]

[:D]ray,what a brilliant idea !!! come to think of it a few months ago the local citizen wrote an article about the amount of abandoned & unused allotments in the area & what an eyesore they were.so maybe if we take a piccy & tell them about our unsuccessful attempts to take on the allotment it may just shame the council into action! itl be worth a try anyway.cheers for that!...[:D]x
