Hi Mike, I can't answer your questions, but I wanted to wish you good luck tomorrow - you aren't committing yourself to anything by making the phone calls, but it will help you move forward. I also wanted to wish your wife luck tomorrow - let us know how you both get on x

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hi
You can rent whilst in an IVA.You may need a larger deposit if you rent via a letting agent though.Just be upfront and honest with the agents.I you rent via private landlords you will be ok as they tend to just ask for a personal reference. The point Jo is making is that if your wife only has the joint NR loan she can use her half of the equity to pay the loan off in full without favouring one particular creditor.
make those phone calls.

Good Luck Mike

We have all been through this and all experienced different aspects but what I can say that life is far more important than life itself!

As someone told me today about a problem I had at work today that if anyone can sort it then it would be me! Basically the experience of dealing with debt does give you so much even though we don't know it at the time!

Hi Mike

I have been amazed at all the people I have spoken to during the course of my IVA, I expected everyone to be judgemental and make me feel a failure ... but just the opposite has been the case, the professional people I have crossed paths with have always been very helpful and understanding.

Good luck ... and fingers and toes crossed for your wife's driving test tomorrow!

Hi Mike,
I spent a couple of years of worrying about where the next penny was going to come from. The sense of relief I felt when I had the meeting with the CAB and my IP was amazing. I know longer felt that I was on my own. My IVA was passed about 5 weeks ago and MBNA was one of my creditors who accepted 37p in the £.
Now this may sound dramatic but for the first time in years I am enjoying myself and boy do I feel like a different person. Good luck in making that call.
IVA completed

Hi guys,
Bad news my wife didn't pass her part three driving instructors test this morning, gutted, she got a 3/3 and you need a 4/4 to pass, much harder than she had bargained for. Oh well one more try and then Jane will have to start from part one again, a big blow to our future plans but lets be positive for next time.

I have to admit I bottled it agin in picking up the phone to speak to someone (I tried all day but couldn't dial the number) but I have emailed my details to Melanie so hoping to talk to her real soon and get things started. We have an offer on the house £135,000, £5,000 below asking, which is dissapointing but it will give a chunk of money to offer, hope it will be enough to sort things out. We checked the Northern Rock loan today and we owe £6,700 on it, which is less than we thought, also I didn't realise but the loan is just in Jane's name not joint, don't know if that will make any difference or not. So the biggest debt is the credit cards, which are in my name £46k when I added them up today, really scary.

Shame we have to sell our home, but I doubt very much based on my income that we would ever get a remortgage, and at least this way it will give us a chunk to offer up front. Not sure where we go then, just hope we will be able to rent ok, other thing worrying me now is if we have to hand over all the money from the sale of the house how will I be able to raise the money for a deposit for a rented house, also they will want money for rent in advance. I guess we will have to cross that bridge as and when we get to it. Speak again soon, thanks for listening.
All the best to you all
Cheers
Mike

I think Melanie is on holiday till 16th, but as you are so nervous about the whole thing I think Melanie will be your best bet!...Dont worry, your IVA will get sorted and you will look back in a few months and wonder why you were worrying so much!
You do need to sort your IVA though..If you sell your house, pay off NR then put the rest in your bank, you will start eating into it. You need to try and tie your IVA in roughly with your house sale,or creditiors will call you threatening all sorts, you might panick, and start paying them off.You will then be back to square one!!

Hi Mike ... what a pain for your wife not passing the driving test ... but I am a great believer in what is meant to be, will be and life often takes its own strange twists and turns in respect of our destinies [:)]

Hang on in there ... make that phone call ... and a brighter future WILL occur for you.

Hi mike

How much are you able to offer to your creditors?? I am just wondering if the sale goes through is it worth trying to contact them and offer something without going throught an IVA, I know it is a neater option but I am thinking about your credit rating and renting something, you will have to pay round 5-6K IP fee. Well its just a thought, I know its hard but you do have options, talk to someone soon.

Hi Mike.s Bad news about your wife failing her exams - good luck to her next time round...

Have you confirmed your figures with a professional advisor? Are you sure you can not afford to remortgage to refinance? I’m not trying to put you off an IVA, it sounds like it is your best option based on what you have said so far, but it’s worth exploring all avenues.

Hi Mike Sorry your wife failed her exam, but will pray that next time things will go well for you both.
Is it not worth giving Mike a call or contacting somebody from hes firm Leybridge just to go through all your mortgage options even if it ends up that you can't remortgage at least you will know what your option are.
Glad you have filled out one of Melanies forms she will certainly look after you.

Hi Mike

I am sorry about your wife's exam - as others have said, things do happen for a reason and there is always a solution around the corner.

If I may, contact Mike's company and speak to Jamie Watts. I found him to be very supportive and he does go through all the options available regarding remortgaging.

Pick up the phone and go for it!!!!
