Actually having read the letter again, no direct threats as such, but very clear underlying threats using key words, 'we are aware' 'we are also aware you have sought advice' we are prepared to take steps to help you' options available 'for a limited period' 'we must make it clear'
It's been worded very well to make the vulnerable person feel threatend and frightened into the corner, the bully with the upper hand, good cop bad cop, hey maybe they're now my friends and really do want to help me!

Hi Mike

This is a standard letter issued by MBNA and has not been personalised to you. We will discus this, together with all options which are available to you, once we have a completed file. Hopefully this will be next week, and we will contact you to confirm this.

Thanks Melanie,
Feel like a headless chicken at the moment, so much happening so much to do, so much out of my hands, all so very new, very scary and daunting. 'Scream if you want to go faster', actually can I get off please I feel sick! Don't like this new ride, I'll stick with the merry-go-round! Beam me up Scotty!

Hi guys,
Meeting with Melanie set up for Friday, feeling very, very nervous!!! Had a bad couple of days, sick with worry and feeling a little down in the dumps so hoping an end will soon be in sight, feeling very choked up, don't know why. Not been through this b4 so I guess not really knowing what is going to happen is the frightening part. Dropped my daughter off at school today, she is going on a residential school trip for three days, other than a few sleepovers this is her first time away from home, missing her already, but I know she will have a great time.
Anyway I have a day off today so I'm going to tackle the attic and sort things out ready for the move, the survey is being done tomorrow, Tuesday, so hope everything is ok with that (another thing on my mind) I think we have more up in the attic than the rest of the house put together. We're going to be ruthless this time and have a good sort out, it's amazing all the rubbish you hoard because 'it may come in usefull one day'. I think a boot sale is on the cards.
Best wishes
Mike

Hi Mike

You will be fine with Melanie on Friday - just wish I had found her a long time ago - then perhaps my bad dream would not be the nightmare it is at the moment.

You go ahead and be as ruthless as you can - I am doing the same because I am not taking any baggage into this new chapter of my life.

Good luck

Sue

Thanks Sue, when do you move or have you already? We had the survey done today so hopefully everything will come back ok and we will have a completion date soon. The guy was in and out pretty quick I would say no more than 15 mins, so I guess that's a good sign that he thought everything looked ok. Spent a whole day in the attic yesterday, where on earth does everything come from? Does anyone else have an attic full, and I mean full of stuff? Mind you it was actually kinda nice going through things. We have a huge keepsake box for each of the kids, first drawings, school books etc, so it was lovely looking through everything, how quick time goes. Looked through loads of old photos, right back to when Jane and I first met etc, I was a biker dude then, long hair, studs and leather, heavy rock etc. Lovely to look back at all the memories, these things mean so much and no matter what happens they cannot be taken away. Made me realise how lucky I am, lovely wife, best kids in the world, and a stack of fantastic memories, no matter what happens we will always have that, and many more still to make. Although Jane is starting to get a little upset now, leaving our home, which is very understandable, but it's the best thing to do to try and pay back as much of the debt as possible. Looking out of the window I can still see my son walking off to get the bus for his first day at high school, wouldn't let us take him had to go with his mates on the bus. Although that has now changed and we have to drive him, and his flippin precious skateboards, everywhere (how many skateboards can one person need? apparently each one does different things, tricks, cruising etc. Ohh well at least when he's out on his board, he's not playing his guitar! My daughter is back from her school trip tomorrow, missed her loads and can't wait to talk about everything she's been upto. Anyway I'm rambling on now so I'll go, just a big, big thank you to Andy b4 I go, cheers mate, made up big style, means alot!!
Speak again soon, thanks for listening.
Very best wishes to all.
P.S, well done Emma t if you are listening, totally made up for you, great news :)

Hi guys,
Had a wonderful meeting with Melanie today, felt very relaxed and at ease, and we had a great chat about possible solutions, lovely lady. Melanie is amazing and came up with solutions that I hadn't even thought of, so there is a real possibilty that things could be sorted very soon, just hope the house sale goes through soon with no problems, fingers crossed. I would advise anyone that is looking at the forum and still worried to make that first call to speak to Melanie, she really will be understanding and will find a solution that suits you. Beleive me I wish I had picked up that phone sooner! Feeling much, much better now, although a tad tired, long but I have to say very pleasant drive. For the first time for a long time I will be getting a good nights sleep tonight, so at least I will hopefully be able to speak to my customers on the market tomorrow as a normal person and not an extra out of night of the living dead! Speak again soon, and thanks to everyone for all your help and support.
Best wishes
Mike

Hi guys,
Just waiting for creditors to get back to Melanie about a solution put to them and there could hopefully be light at the end of the tunnel very soon. Looks like contracts for the sale of the house could soon be exchanged giving me the money to offer a settlement.
This may sound like a silly question but it's getting me a little worried. I know it is best to speak to creditors when they call and explain what is happening. The only problem is I am out b4 7am and not back until later in the evening, so when they call I'm genuinely not here. I admit there have been many times in the past I have ignored it, or shouted to whoever is about to answer the phone to say I'm not here, but at the moment (as I'm trying to work more days on the market) I'm really not here! I'm sure they must think that they're being lied to but they're not. Will this look bad if I'm not here to take the calls or am I worrying about it too much?
Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike

Don't worry about the creditors not being able to get hold of you. Of your four creditors, three are actually owned by the same bank who we are negotiating with in any case, and will hopefully have an answer for you by the end of the week.
