Hi guys,
Thank you so much for taking the time talk, it is, and has been a huge help! I am booked in with and speaking to Tina in Melanie's office on Monday and I have taken your advice and just come off the phone with Jamie at Leybridge. Yep off the phone!! I actually plucked up the courage and spoke to someone, and it has just sunk in that guess what.... I'm not the only one in debt after all!! I cannot thank you all enough I feel so much better, and Thank you Jamie I feel like a person again. Jamie has come up with some great ideas and will contact us again tomorrow to see what he can come up with, but it may be a possibility that we can keep our home. Fingers crossed! Jamie is on the case!! and I feel so much better now that there could actually be a real hope and light at the end of a very long and very dark tunnel.
One thing that did come up though and not sure if anyone can shed any light onto this, but although the credit cards are in my name, they only phone me and my name is the only one on the letters and statements, my wife is a card holder on the cards. Does this mean that my wife is liable after all and the debt is not just mine? Thanks guys, speak again soon
Best wishes to all
Mike

If you and you alone signed the agreement then its only you that is responsible for the debt, they just gave her an extra card on your account, yes??? I believe its all down to who signed the agreeement.

I am glad that you managed to speak to someone, I havent had much time but checked yesterday to see if you had, I am sure we are all rooting for you as we do know how you feel. If everyone who gets into debt is a failure and dosebt deserve a chance then it would be a very sad world. Forgive yourself mike, you are not a failure. You are a caring, sensitive husband and father carrying a tremendous burden. Sorry mrs mike did not pass the test but as someone said some things happen for the best. I would imagine she has been pretty stressed also, bless her.

Sometimes we just have to realise the most important things in life, debt brings you to your knees, yes. It also makes you realise how de-valued money should be. This buy now pay later culture we live in is a crock. People should be measured for who they are and what they do for others rather then status symbols or the halo effect of having something nice.

Good luck mike and well done.

Hi
Lily is correct, the card is your responsibility only and not your wifes. She is just an extra card holder but you are responsible in paying for her spending.

Easy tigers! let's not lose sense of the real issues here! Although my wife has now seemed to have taken more of an interest in the whole thing! We can do this by phone right? or do we have to meet you in person? Maybe I should come alone to the meeting!!

A while ago we went to Dave's mum's place at the coast and it had been shut up for ages and was full of spiders - Dave confiscated my glasses so I couldn't find any more for him to get rid of!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hi guys,
Feeling very positive now, Jamie at Leybridge (star player) has come up with some options for us to help get our life back on track, would definately recommend them to anyone, been fantastic, thanks Jamie. Really didn't think there was any way out of this but there could be a few ways out to talk to Tina on Melanie's team about on Monday. Strange feeling but a few days ago I was terrified at the thought of facing this and talking to someone, now I really want to get on with it and get it sorted, Monday can't come quick enough! Our house has been up for sale for six months without a sniff of interest, after finding a buyer and accepting their low offer only a few days ago out of desperation, they have come back to us today saying they have been accepted for the mortgage and want to move as quickly as possible. On the same day when a remortgage may be possible and we may not have to sell, really don't know what we will say to them we would feel terrible to have to let them down and back out. They want to come round and measure up for curtains at the weekend, but I can't speak to Tina until Monday, so don't know which option is best. Great finally found a buyer but I will now have to stall them until we know what our best option will be, feeling really bad about that and don't know what we will say to them if we back out.
Does anyone know the answer to this as this is obviously all very new to us. As the debt is mine and it seems to be that my wife's share of the equity is safe (right?) can they only take my share of the equity. If I say go BR (one option) my wife could remortgage in her name and buy back my 50% share. Does this mean that if we went ahead with the sale and we were left with say £30,000, and I went BR then, could they only take my share £15,000, leaving my wife with her share? Or would they take the whole lot leaving us with nothing? The thought of going BR really scares me, but any solution out of this and trying to get back a normal family life has got to be worth looking into. I really thought there was no way out of this, everyone on this forum has been such a huge help and I cannot thank you all enough. Speak again soon
Best wishes to all
Cheers
Mike
