I’ve never understood why driving whilst holding a mobile phone only attracts a fine but no points. If you do 35 in a 35 area you get 3 points and a £60 fine. Isn’t using the phone more dangerous? That says to me is if you can afford it, it’s OK to do it. Is this why you see so many people in Range Rovers and the like using hand held mobiles?

I don't understand people not wearing a seatbelt. I had an accident years ago and I don't think I would be here if I hadn't been wearing mine. I had black bruises in the shape of the seatbelt but if I hadn't had it on the steering wheel would have gone straight in my chest.

On the subject of mobile phones, anyone using them should definitely get points. If you need to use the phone buy a Bluetooth - they are so cheap. My Fiesta has it built in so I really don't believe that the Range Rovers etc don't.

Range Rovers etc do have Bluetooth as standard which makes it even more frustrating. Perhaps they are just "too busy" to work out how to use it!

psv drivers can get find up to £1000 and get a ban from driving a psv for up to 6 months.
I think hgv drivers can get the same.
IVA now over with and it was worth it.

My company has Parrot Bluetooth in all our wagons and business cars and the majority of other reputable hauliers also have the same.

With us its simple whilst driving....no bluetooth = no speak.

Its a shame more car drivers are not made aware of the special considerations that HGV should be afforded eg....if on a single carriageway dont get up the backside of a wagon and become frustrated when its doing 40 mph......its the speed limit for HGV..........also when going round small roundabouts dont race up the inside lane whilst an HGV is also negotiating it.......it can cause dreadful damage to the car.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

Another thing that bugs me is 'Think Bike'. A lot of motorcyclists need to 'Think Car'! I've lost count of the number of times a motorbike has gone flying past me, usually overtaking me on the the wrong side of the road and then swerve in when something comes in the opposite direction!

Thanks for that, Paul. I wondered why it didn't get points when it should. Unless you read the official government website, it's a bit ambiguous. It must be making a difference as I only counted 5 drivers blatantly using a mobile whilst driving on my way home tonight! It makes my blood boil.
