Hi, me and my husband have just completed the forms, we are with debt free direct, I am already having sleepless nights and feel ill over the situation, but on the positive side, hopefully things will take a turn in a more positive direction. Has anyone got any adivce to give us?? We only really know the basics, so any info would be much appreciated.
Look forward to hearing from you
katie

Hi Katie we have just started this process as well, it is really daunting and I have good days and bad, worrying if IVA will be accepted and various other horrors.. But people on this forum are fantastic and really put your mind at ease. I have had many a soothing word from aguise... and lots of good advice from the experts, especially Melanie who is dealing with our case.. hang in there!!![:)]

This is same as on can't eat or sleep (just learnt to copy and paste)

We also opened a bank account online with SMILE its through the co-op. They were fine. Alot of people on this site seem to agree also.

I am in the same situation as you are. I have sent off the forms as soon as I could get all the information gathered. I too, like everyone else, I am experiencing the full range of emotions. Apprehension being the strongest. All I know is that something has to be done to resolve this situation. It just can't go on like this forever.

Think the biggest hurdle is the finally admitting that something has got to be done and embracing the fact... the first phone call is really hard and we should feel proud of ourselves for making it. Nobody wants to admit to being in trouble!! Its a pride thing, but as they say this sometimes comes before a fall..

It is essential to make sure that you are properly advised by either the insolvency practitioner or a senior and experienced member of staff - who should take you throught the advangtages, disadvantages and implications of each option.

Please make sure that you don't end up signing documents you don't really understand, or agree to make payments you will not be able to afford.

Hi Katieray,
Just before christmas i applied for an IVA with Melanie Giles and her team at the IVA Advice Bureau
I went to draw some money out of my account in the middle of the month and after paying all my credit cards, rent, christmas shopping and other bills
i had insufficient funds in my bank account, i was maxed out on my credit cards and even though i had always paid them every month i thought stuff it i can't keep living like this and had nowhere to turn until i made that phone call to IVA Advice Bureau.
You have made a VERY GOOD!!! move contacting them as they are EXCELLENT!!! and will help you get through your situation in applying for an IVA.
The changing of Bank Accounts and Stopping Paying your creditors is the most DAUNTING thing of all as you are not used to receiving any calls and you maybe get a few demand letters from your creditors, i went through exactly the same but BELIEVE ME!! bare with it as it will definately
HELP YOU!! and make your life so much better and like me you will wish you had done it ages ago.
Last December i was a total stesshead before my IVA but now that it has been accepted and am into my second payment with 58 weeks to go it is like a JUMBO JET lifted from my shoulders and am miles better off.
When i stopped paying my creditors all i did was refer them to Melanies team and forwarded any correspondence onto them and really it was not half as bad as i thought it would be.
Good Luck!!!

Andrew - this lady has chosen Debt Free Direct to act for her. Just want to make it clear that neither I or my firm have absolutely any connection with Debt Free Direct!

If they're not one of your creditors I would recommend the Co-op Cashminder account - you get a Visa Electron debit card and internet banking and the customer service is excellent.
