I have around £50000 worth of debt to various cards and a personal loan.
My wife also has some debts but she can manage hers and gives me £450/month to help with mine, she cannot afford to give me anymore and covers our monthly food bills. Would I be able to apply for an IVA without involving her. She is concerned that her involvment would affect her job as she works for a bank.

Hi sltt and welcome to the forum

You can definately apply for an IVA on your own, but your wife will need to provide details of her income and creditor commitments so that your IP can work out the shares of contribution you both should be making towards household and general expenditure.

Creditors will very likely expect to see her paying over any surplus income to you, once she has paid all of her own bills, as they will have the attitiude that she has benefitted in some way from your debts - even if she has not.

One other point is that even though she isn't a party to the IVA she will be affected by it, if only indirectly. Professionally the IP you choose will need to be satisfied that your wife is on board with the IVA and will need to show that he has recommended that she take independent advice.
