I agree. We were lucky that when we phone Payplan, they phoned us back a few days later and explained everything to us and made sure we understood all our options before we made a decision.

We never felt pressured into making a snap decision.

I am with Synergi I first contacted Debt Counselors and they transfered me to Syergi (or the company Synergi took over) As i said in an earlier post I didn't ask enough questions although to be fair my IVA has been OK and the money I paid up front except for the Debt Counselors taking an up front payment all the money I paid was counted as part of my IVA.

I feel that companies should be more up front and open to their clients as many people I am sure are just so relieved that their nightmare is being dealt with do not really know the finer details of what they are doing. This is when I wished I knew of this site at the beginning of my IVA.

Hi
I don't agree with the way Synergi works. There should be a maximum that can be paid before the IVA is agreed and any monies paid over that refunded.
There is quite alot of work that is carried out by companies like Thomas Charles as they basically package a case before sending it to a suitable IP.
It's a little like using a mortgage broker rather than going direct to the lender.

I appreciate that Andy, and maybe I was just unlucky with my debt advisor. I was told I didn't want to go BR, a DMP (although not practical) was never mentioned and she went on holiday and didn't tell me so I was left wondering why my emails weren't being answered as I didn't have an alternative contact.

Maybe she was new, I don't know, but with hindsight I wish I'd said what I thought at the time as I don't think the level of service I received was worth £1000.

At the time I thought that was how things worked, and it's only since discovering the forum that I realise that it shouldn't be.

I know others have had positive experiences with Thomas Charles and similar companies and I think that's great - as I said I think I was just unlucky.

Hi
I wouldn't be very happy had I received the service that you did.
Hopefully your experience was an isolated or very rare example of TCs service level.
Did you have the refund option that TC offered at the time ?

I did, but my IVA was accepted so I don't think I would have qualified. Like I said though I thought that was how it worked at the time, and I was just so pleased to have my IVA accepted that I thought TC and Accuma were fantastic!

It's only through reading other people's stories on the forum that I know that wasn't how things should have worked. Also, I'm much more confident as a person now so I wouldn't stand for poor customer service!
