So yesterday i finally got the email, my IVA closed on thursday and my completion letter is in the post.

Its been a long 3 months but im glad its now all over, to be fair to my IP they put in a request to the court for an admin extension and they stuck to there word and ended it just past the 3 month extension.

PPI they have not chased me for, the VAT issue they were upfront and honest about the timescales so i should thank them.

I was with Debt Lifeboat birmingham, my only gripe is case workers ive had more than ive got creditors and the communication lines sometimes have been a little stressed at times!

Will update when that letter comes through the door, but for now i have that email!!

Great news, typical the postie being late when you are waiting for something special, always seems to be the case.

Well finally the certificate came in the post this morning, along with a final statment of affairs. The letter had a note asking me to call the office to confirm delivery.

So gave them a ring, all i can say is wow, very professional handover of my finances as it where, was told howmuch had been paid, a break down in the fee's what to do next, and assurances if any of my creditors tried to get more money from me to forward the details on to the office and they would send a strongly worded letter telling them to back off. Must admit, while the in iva comm's weren't great, the final handover i wasn't expecting that.

The last 3 months have been odd, as no payments!! ive replaced the Tele, vacuum cleaner, road bike, clothes!! funny not having money for 5 years everything just keeps going but you know its on last legs, now everything in the flat is new and shiney, hey even got a hamster, couldn't afford one in the IVA, still have a few things to replace, if i get 5 years out of it all i can save a small fortune!

Its a strange feeling having this behind me, really is, my girlfriend told me to change the tele, she got fed up looking at the grey cloud in the corner, myself i would of left it for a few months [:)]

I would say to those doubting an IVA or changing how they feel, stick it out (if its feasable)the reward in the end is there.

I could of gone bankrupt, as i had no assets but wanted to pay back as much as possible, a friend of mine went bankrupt but didn't learn the lessons he is now back in big debt, i think, i hope ive learnt my lesson with the IVA.

Congratulations Antm - so pleased for you!! You are so right - An IVA does give an opportunity to pay back as much as possible, as well as learning to budget and not rely on credit. It must be so wonderful to be able to pay for your 'shiny new things' with the hard cash you have earned!
IVA journey started: 30th March 2009. Settled: 17th July 2012. Completion Certificate received: 13th March 2013. Breathe. x

So pleased for you that everything is now finalised. I hope that my 5 years with Debt Lifeboat goes as well as your's has - already into year 2. Wishing you and your girlfriend a happy and debtless future together (don't even know if debtless is a word, probably not!!) x
