Another way of looking at it is this. Why not find a building society such as Bradford and Bingley. They do accounts where you can put money in, get cash out and also have a facility to have your wages paid in by bank giro credit. It does not accept direct debits which can be a good thing as they are an advantage to companies more than customers. I am not sure but i believe they do not credit check it as it is a savings account. Also they will do B/Sc cheques for you paid out in anyones name. This also gets away from the banks

Hi Silver

You can do better than that by talking to the Co Op bank as well and get a Cash Minder account.

You can also get a Mastercard with Cash Plus.

Worth looking into!

I have a Co-op account and so far so good. You get a Visa Electron card, internet and telephone banking and you can pay direct debits and standing orders from it.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hi there
On the Internet it does say that Nationwide will not accept bankrupts or people in IVAs, however i opened a new account with them on 21st June the date of my bankruptcy order and they know i am bankrupt. I called them last week after hearing that they do not accept and spoke to 2 people in the "Flex account" department who state you can have a cash card only account with them.
Hope this helps

Hi ive recently opened a nationwide account (my iva is yet to be approved) however i was unable to open a basic account on the net with them as i failed the credit score i am still unsure why as at that point i was up to date with all payment even though i was robbing peter to pay paul.
I had to go into branch and open a cash card account without a credit score. It became a little uncomfrtable as they kept trying to say the flex account would be better but i already knew i would fail the C/S so i opted for the cash card account a very simple account money paid in and cash out no extras.

Will there be a problem with this account when hopefully my iva is approved?

When was that Stoney Broke? I opened my Nationwide basic Flexaccount online and I'm bankrupt!

Very strange! I opened mine in May so they must have changed things since then.

What I don't understand is why so many banks won't let you have an account if you are BR in an IVA. What is the problem with having a basic bank account with no credit facilities? Cynical me thinks it's because they won't be getting any interest - what do other people think?

I was turned down today for a Co-op savings account - I failed the credit score surprise surprise! Why on earth did they credit score me for a savings account?!?!

so sorry if i have worried anybody.

the bloke i spoke to said they changed their policy on monday and wouldn't even put me through an application. i asked if it was worth me going into a branch but he said the policy there was the same. the only time they would consider it was if you couldn't or didn't have a bank anywhere else...

strange hey

Hi all

This is a question for Andy/Admin.

Is it possible for somebody from IVA.co.uk to contact the various bank head offices to find out their stance with regard to IVAs/BR. Then maybe you could post a definitive list of who will offer what.

I remember getting information from the National Debtline about who would provide basic banking facilities but that was last October and banks seem to be having a change of policy.

Many thanks

Dave

Dave

Good evening all.
The accounts you speak of here with the Nationwide - are they personal or business?
I am still struggling to open a business account as I work free-lance as a trainer. Some contracts pay me on a hourly/daily rate on an agency basis on PAYE which is fine but others I need to invoice and it is not good business practice to have clients make payments into a personal account.
I have resolved to visit Nationwide tomorrow but thought I'd better just check with you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I have that sinking feeling that I've got it wrong again. Please tell me I'm wrong.....please

Someone on the forum opened a business account the other day - I forget with which bank - but it cost £170. I am sure that Admin can find the thread - Andy???
