Thanks Melanie, I've just read that one . It was with Halifax but needed £5000 deposit to open. - I wonder would they accept buttons?

Hi
For anyone else looking for a business account it was opened through www.secretariatservices.net You need 5k to open but this can be withdrawn as soon as the account is open. The cost is £170 and you get a cheque book and debit card.
This is for informaion only and is not a recommendation. You need to make your own enquiries and satisfy yourself that all is bona fida.

Visited Nationwide today- and guess what? Their accounts are not Business accounts - so that puts me back to square one. So now I'll have to come up with some idea to cheat to get the much needed account. - Shame but what else can I do?

Doesn't have anything to do with Data Protection Act - might be worth asking if it is now policy although you will find it difficult to find anybody who will give you a striaght answer.

I'm sure I read it somewhere else but I can't remember where - I look at so many sites when I'm bored at work! I know they definitely close your account if you go bankrupt, so I presumed this was a natural progression. HSBC and First Direct are the worst though.

Do you know if this means that someone in an IVA can still open a Step account with them?

Hi Folks.
Took the bull by the horns and decided that if I can't get a business account then I'll settle for a personal account separate from my joint account with my wife, to manage my business earnings. Encouraged by the postings on here re. the Nationwide, I telephoned, explained that I had bad credit and in an IVA, was assured there would be no problem and an appointment was made. Turned up for the appointment and all my details were entered on the system and guess what? - 'the computer said NO'. It was explained to me that sometimes people can make decisions on such matters but if the computer says NO - then NO it is and that's final.
I recently spoke to Secretariat Services as mentioned above and asked them about the need to deposit £5K. they said that it was not necessary but without the big deposit, I could only get a basic business a/c (no cheque book etc, etc) but with the 5 grand
I could be guaranteed the best all dancing , all singing everything included business account. I have decided not to spend £170 for such a basic account and I now think I will manage my affairs through my joint personal account until such time as I win the Lottery and the banks queue up to interview me. I'm looking forward to the day. In the meanwhile let's keep smiling (at least they'll wonder what we're smiling at!)
Bob.

Bob

This is a sensible stance to take, as all you need is an account through which to lodge payments and pay bills. Keep a simple cashbook for the account with two columns - one for personal income and expenditure and one for business - and make sure you don't mix up the expenditure, otherwise your accountant is likely to have your guts for garters!

Hi
The Nationwide basic account is a strange one as some members state that they have no problems and others, like yourself do.
They seem to have two levels of flexaccount
I wonder if they put your application through the "other" basic account that seems to credit score.
Strange one
