I completed my IVA early - three years after commencement- just over one year ago now. My credit rating has been good for around two years. However, my bank of around seven years (it was not a creditor) insists on handling my current account in 'managed accounts'and refuses to allow a fixed overdraft. Is there a bank that will allow me a debit card and overdraft?
I applied to Nationwide, online but, was declined. I don't think it even got as far as credit scoring.

Many thanks,

Welcome to the Forum Julie,

An IVA will remain on your credit report for 6 years from its commencement. So unfortunately eventhough you completed your IVA after 3 years your IVA will still remain on your credit report.

Hi
I think that you will struggle to find an account with an overdraft. There are banks that will offer you a basic account with a debit card and I would suggest starting with the Co-op bank and their cashminder account.
Heres a recent post from another forum member

Hi, I was in a position at the end of last year where I was given notice that First Direct was going to close my account within 30 days. As already explained by Melanie, it's now in their 'small print' that they don't serve anyone in an IVA.
I rang CoOperative bank and was offered a CashMinder account within a couple of days (due to routine fraud checks). I've got a great account now which I can access online, the staff are friendly and very helpful and I've got an Electron debit card which is my preferred way of buying so I haven't actually got cash burning a hole in my purse! So far, I haven't come across anywhere where I cannot use Electron so it really is just as easy as using a Switch / Maestro card. All my direct debits and standing orders can be paid out of the account and I've honestly had no problems at all. Touch Wood!!
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that.

It's the Coop (smile) that is treating me so badly. Anyone else that will give me a debit card accound?

juli3, Think banking will give you a maestro card, but they charge a £12.50 fee a month. The link is:http://www.thinkbanking.co.uk

Take care

If you look on the money expert site they will show a list of basic bank accounts and what facilities they give. I believe NatWest step comes with a Maestro card and have heard good things about Nationwide as well.

Thanks for all advice. Just applied for a Nat West Step account online. They stated that the application process would be completed by post, documents due in a few days. Does this mean I have been accepted? Anyone Know please? The Step account seems an excellent option as if offers internet and telephone banking as standard.

Thanks again.
