Hi,

Does anyone know which Banks would accept a discharged bankrupt person?? I'm with the co-op but would like a branch in my home town maybe one that would pay interest?? I have bank statements that can prove I am good with my money now even though I know they really only go on credit checks. I have been discharged for just over 2 years now.

I think that most banks offer a basic account which would be suitable for you. The best thing to do is be upfront about your financial situation so that the adviser in the bank can place the correct account for you.

Hi vikivk

I opened an account with HSBC 2 years after discharge, now with RBS. Ask to meet your local Manager, take along evidence of discharge from BR, also statements of existing account, and ask for a current account with no overdraft facility, and a Debit Card.

Hello Vicki,
It is true that post BR a basic bank account would be your best option. You could look into some comparisons for basic accounts. However I just read in the news that some banks, sorry can't remember which ones, were going to start charging activation fees and other fees for basic accounts, so make sure to be conscious about that! Here are some of those comparison sites and more info if you need it!
