Thx Skippy

I will do that this week. Nightmare!

Does anyone after a short time start to get some form of savings together? I dread the thought of 5 years with limited flexibility or reduced contingency? I set up a lloyds account a few weeks ago with this in mind, will this be closed too?[:(]
Hi Jes - I don't know about Lloyds, but FD shut me down after almost 15 years with them. They don't care and the fact that you are probably a better/lower risk customer because you have the bare minimum doesn't seem to matter. Open an account now - the Co-Op really are good - and make sure that you get all your direct debits and salary transferred so the account isn't frozen. If you have a savings account, make sure you keep it open.

I tried to open a savings account with the Co-Op (online) and they declined it. You do get to a point where you can save a little. I think it's essential because you just never know what's round the corner.
There's light at the end of the tunnel - it's just that sometimes the tunnel seems so long.

Hi.

Our creditors meeting is on Thursday and at the beginning of the month, when we decided to go down this route, we opened an Abbey account as HSBC was one of our creditors.

Now after hearing the HSBC nightmare stories, am I starting to worry that Abbey may do the same thing - has anyone had Abbey do this to them?

You could try Abbey or Barclays.

Re: Abbey.

It is only HSBC Group (HSBC & First Direct) customers who have had their accounts closed in an IVA, even though they may not be a creditor.

Thanks to all for your help so far,
I opened a Cashminder account over the phone this morning, was going to do it at a branch on Wednesday but thought what the hell!.

They were fantastic! All my questions answered, direct debits being sorted out when I get the forms and very friendly and precise staff.

Ive not even got any money in there yet and im very impressed.
Sounds like a very wise choice.[;)]

I took out an account with Clydesdale Bank, and have found it be very good. It's a basic account, but offers internet and telephone banking, plus a debit (Maestro) card which is accepted in most places.
The downside is there are very few branches in England, but the card can be used for withdrawals in all cash machines.

Hi I went to Abbey today to open one of their basic accounts - on the forms it asks if you are in an IVA. Just waiting for a phone call now to see if they have accepted it.

I opened a Halifax current account just before the IVA was accepted. I'm now a bit worried they might shut this down. I have a debit card and cheque book with them plus a savings account as of today.

HSBC do have a policy of closing the accounts of people in IVAs, so I'd start to look elsewhere just in case Nodough. I've only heard of Natwest closing an account once before, so I hope this isn't a complete change of policy for them.

Again, people, can I urge you to try CLYDESDALE? I had debts with lots of different creditors, and many of them were linked to almost all the other banks (if you see what I mean). But Clydesdale is linked just to Yorkshire Bank (I think), and offers a Maestro card plus telephone & internet banking.
By the way, if anyone here has a link to a list of which banks are linked to each other, it would be very useful to post it here now.
