I was with Lloyds when I was in my IVA and they were fine - I kept my current account with debit card and cheque book with no problems and my IVA payment was taken from that account.

As far as I know the only banks who have a policy of closing accounts are HSBC and First Direct.

Sorry, I missed that Lloyds were one of your creditors. In that case you will need to open an account with a bank who is not one of your creditors (which I believe you've already done with A & L?) and have your salary paid into that account. If you don't there is a chance that Lloyds could use your money to offset against your debts to them.

Nationwide are good (as long as you use on-line and the post office for transactions - their customer service in branch is dire!!). The big benefit we have found with Nationwide is the ability to open a number of savings accounts linked to the main account. These are really handy for budgeting. I have set up money to come out each month automatically (as soon as my salary is paid in) for car, utilities, etc. into each of the savings accounts. These savings accounts also pay 5% interest.

We open an account with A&L, was with lloyds who closed account as soon as IVA was going thru. A&L have been great for us gave the basic account electon / cheque book at first then upgraded after about 6 months with debit card etc. They sorted all the usual direct debits etc, nothing was any trouble. Always willing to help when you ring them as well. Would recommend them.Girls in local branch always go that bit further than lloyds ever did! Plus you can use post office for cash withdrawals etc.

We're with Nationwide, and it must be national the poor service in the branch as we have the same. If you try and ring them it just rings out and no one answers. Our local branch is split in two, so if you need something from the other part, someone has to leave the one office, and go round the corner to the other one! How stupid is that?

Both my partners accounts and mine were with loyds tsb and as they are one of our main creditors we opened an account with Barclays as we owed them no money etc however i then got a letter from my GOLDFISH acc to inform me they were now owned by Barclays GRRRR , So we have now set up a BASIC Acc with Abbey. We opened in branch and i told the lady opening the acc that we were in the process of trying to get an IVA and she said that was fine as we were opening an account with NO credit facilitys.

We could have pos stayed with Barclays but to be honest we wanted to make sure our money is secure!!!
Half the battle is to admit you need help!

Hi I opened a co-op cashminder account over the phone and it only took 10 minutes, just waiting for account details to come through.
