Hi All,

My house mate is going bankrupt and has the bill account for our flat in her name so obviously that will get closed down.

I tried to open another on line with my existing company Natwest so we can use that but they said no because I'm bankrupt. I'm not though, I have an IVA running for 3 years. Why does it show as bankrupt??

Can I open another basic account anywhere if I already have one?? I am going to go into a bank and ask in person but wondered if anyone else has more than 1 account on an IVA?? It is purely needed for direct debits as I don't want to get all the bill money going into my existing account and confusing matters. Is this acceptable??

If not I will just have to ask a friend to open one!! [:0]

Hi neverguess

Some banks don't seem to distinguish the difference between being bankrupt and being in an IVA on their internal systems. I am sure if you speak to your account manager you can clear this up.

Can you not pay the flat costs through your normal current account? With careful budgeting one bank account should be more than sufficient.

Thanks for the prompt response Melanie!! My gosh, do you never rest woman!! [:D]

I am having issues with my IP at the moment that I am trying to sort and don't want the added issue of my house mate putting the moeny into my account to pay for bills if I can avoid it. It's sometrhing that we will use as a last resort but thanks for clearing up what I though about the banks distiguishing between the 2 things. It's what I thought but also wasn't sure I was allowed another basic account.

Andy Davie recommends something called a Think account. I hope he will be about this afternoon to tell you more about it, as I am not really familiar with its operation, but know there is a monthly charge involved.

Where are you Andy?
