Hi, I have a bank account with Lloyds that I opened before the IVA to get wages etc paid into. I now need to add hubby to the account and they have said to just go in with some ID and they will add him. Will they check his credit and refuse now because of the IVA and if so will they then check my credit and not want the account anymore. My credit was shocking when I opened the accountanyway so part of me thinks it will be OK. it is with LLoyds TSB if that makes any difference!! It's only come about as my lovely gran has given us a small cheque for christmas and she has put it in joint names!!
You should still be ok to keep the account, not sure about whether or not they would credit check him if not. Do you have a joint iva., if not and hubbys credit rating is ok then I wouldn't recommend adding him to the account as it will affect his rating.

No we have a jint one. I don't knwo whether it would be easier to ask Gran to write a new cheque, but we have aslways had a joint one so I don't want to arouse suspision!!
There is no reason why you can't try to get him on the account. They might be fine with just the id details.

Can joint cheques not go into a single persons account as long as they are one of the names on the cheque. You could always use a cheque cashing place if its easier but they would rip you off with a fee!!
Arent Grans great.

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.
I presume it is a basic account therefore should be no issues adding another person onto the account even though the credit files may be impacted, savings accounts still have debit card options just without the use of credit features so should be fine.
Bankrupts can have high street bank accounts, so im sure you can
Co-Operative are welcoming to Bankrupts, and as far as I know there was a debit card option last time I checked but no credit options/cheque book but that may of changed.
An alternative is to look for banks which will run two seperate accounts for you, a Savings and a Spending account. The spending account being the one with a Debit Card to use again without the credit options/cheque book but may charge a fee for this service.
The Co-op are welcoming to a degree. They get on their sanctimonious high horse about having a savings account if you are insolvent but will give a basic account. It is very difficult with any of the others (even some of those who were previously iva friendly like Nationswide) and people who leave changing banks until late in the process are having to pay someone like Think Banking. It is one of the most common problems we see on here, partic among people who wait until they are in ivas before changing accounts.
I think it depends on who you speak to sometimes. I still have my full Barclays account from pre iva even though Barclaycard were a creditor (not one of hubbys though) and I do use it as a back up account. They allowed me to open an esavings account as well.

Banks are so inconsistent! I opened up a current account while in my iva, whereas other posters are unable to get a basic account pre-iva!. And then the same bank treats people in the same situation differently! Crazy and no wonder so many people feel excluded from the banking system...theres no consistency in how people are treated which is offpitting if you have a bad first experience.
