Hi,

I have an appointment to go to court on the 8th December, and I have been told that the Official Receiver will freeze my account on this day. I obviously will need to access money in my account from my wages, and I have been advised to open an account prior to going bankrupt making them aware that I will need this account through the bankrupcy process.

Does anyone know whick banks would offer me an account which wouldn't be frozen.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Amy

Hi
Try the cooperative bank, cashminder account.I think all accounts are frozen for a day or two,you will just need to withdraw your money in cash the day before your bankruptcy and put this back in once the account is unfrozen

I agree with Andy - if they're not one of your creditors the Co-op will be your best bet. The only other bank who will offer an account to an undischarged bankrupt is Barclays.

One other thing - it's not the OR who freezes your account, it's the bank when they are notified of your BR. The OR will contact the bank and advise them that they have no interest in your account, and you will be able to withdraw your money. This could take several days, so I would do as Andy suggests and withdraw your money before you go BR and declare it as cash in hand on your BR forms.

Good luck with Lloyds Jenny. They were happy for me to keep my account with them when I went BR, so you may be ok. It'll be good if there's another bank account available!

Skippy is right, it is the bank, NOT the OR that freezes the account.

On the day of BR, I made the point of asking the OR on the phone about keeping my bank account. He asked what the balance was (55p), and he said no problem, he took the sort-code and account number and wrote direct to the Co-op and said leave it alone as they had no claim in the account.
