Personally I would recommend the Co-op. As Foggy says you can use the Post Office, so you don't need a local branch, and if you have to contact them the customer service is excellent.
Places like Clydesdale Bank/yorkshire Bank (part of Austrian banking Goup) also offer basic current accounts - you can also use the post office for accessing money/deposits etc.
And you can be truthful and say no you have not entered IVA/bankruptcy
Good accounts - they are usually very IVA friendly as well.

Opened new account with HSBC 3 weeks ago and is up and running. Dont think I have creditors linked to them. Will they cloe the account?
Open bank accounts before you go into IVA
I was with First direct (HSBC) 19yrs and they closed mine after going into IVA. no debt ever with them
some people use a bank that maybe a creditor not recomended.
HSBC and First Direct are well known for closing accounts even if you have no debt with them. They trawl the Insolvency Register.
