My 18 year old son has suffered fraud on his account and because of this has ended up going overdrawn. LTSB have charged him £15.00 for an unauthorised overdraft and £15.00 a day for a maximum of 10 days. It also took them 5 days to send him the letter to tell him of the overdraft.

They have stopped his card and are investigating the fraud. (all withdrawels happend outside uk and he has been nowhere)

Hopefully he will be reimbursed for the fraud but could he claim back the charges as it was not his fault he went overdrawn. He did not like to ask when he was on the phone as he felt silly.

Does anyone have any advise on how to go about this please? he is also worried that they will close his account down on him.

many thanks.

I have had a situation where my card was used. There should be a number to ring (think you must have spoken to the department already) for fraud investigation section of the bank. They should have automatically sent a form to complete with the details of the "fraud". Once they investigate and agree the transaction was fraudulent you should be able to claim back all the charges. I think you may have to state on the form that is what you want to happen.

Hi my son is with LTSB and he too had his card fraudulenty used, he went into his local branch of LTSB and explained everything to them and he signed the appropiate forms and the bank refunded all the money and the bank charges.

Banks cannot hold customers liable for any fraudulent activity on their account. They will try to get you to pay for card cover but it isn't really neccessary. Your son should get all the money refunded, any fees cancelled and really, a new account should be set up and the one with fraudulent activity should be closed down to prevent any further fraud.

Hi
Lloyds should refund any charges as a result of the fraud, please chase this
The £15 per day for a maximum of ten days is a ridiculously high charge. My own son is having a battle with Lloyds on a debt of about £270,they tried to charge this £15 per day for ten days and as janot states you know nothing about it until day four or five and you have already racked up £60 in charges !!!
How can any high st bank charge £150 plus a £15 monthly charge on a £270 debt in one month ?
No wonder people spiral further and further into debt

The same has happened with my son's acc, my daughter's acc and our acc. I think it's because of the way Lloyds operate the 'ear-marked funds', basically, when your cards been used the amount is deducted from available balance for a limited time. for some reason Lloyds don't earmark these funds long enough and the available balance goes up again, giving a false impression and allowing you to either use your card or withdraw cash. With my son, as you say, they didn't send a letter until he had racked up £60 and it took days to arrive, ended up him owing around £170!!! He was promised that the charges would be refunded as the bank manager noted that it had not happened before but the charges didn't come off and he was charged the month after which then took him overdrawn again!!!! He eventually got the charges refunded but ended up with a £50 overdraft, the manager said it was just 'incase'. The banks will shun responsibilty by stating that it is the customer's duty to keep a check on their spending and should know how much money they have left to spend...

mine wasnt fraud but LTSB allowed a £3 charity payment from my account which caused me to go £1.12 OD. They contacted me by letter 5 days later to let me know that i had incurred £70 charges although they let the DD go with all knowlede it would put me into OD with charge. i told them that if i had tried to draw out £10 they wouldnt have let it go but happy to pay £3 and get £70 in charges

The thing is if they reject the D/D then the fee they charge doesn't come anywhere near the amount of charges you incur when you go unauthorised overdrawn.
I smell something, an it aint roses!!!!!!
